Why all dealers are the same? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Kris
The FX has been having problems with fuel gauge for a while (read much less than real fuel level was) so I decided to have it fixed under warranty. At the same time there were some outstanding recalls so done deal. Got a loaner – G35. Do not really like it.

As anticipated a few hours after the drop off dealer called me back they need to order new sensor etc. so they need to keep the car till Monday. Not a big deal for me. Now the real story, remember the FX has 54K miles.
1. cabin filter needs the be replaced - $120.
2. belts are cracking and needs to be replaced - $200 (I inspected them a week ago and were in perfect shape!)
3. transmission fluid need to be flushed - $360 (I changed fluid 10k miles ago!)

Why every dealer is BS us? If they were honest they would get much more business. Right now I would not go to a dealer unless under warranty. And still they are trying to upsell just to much.

Sorry but had to vent…..

That all they think about Money money Money unfortunatly like much of the Workd, Lie cheat and steal justifed to themselves.

Its because its much easier to make $500 profit off unnecessary services than on the sale of a new car, where "invoice pricing" is known to everyone. They wouldn't be able to afford to keep the service dept open on $30 oil changes.

But yeah, it seems every dealer does this.

Kris,

what you experienced is the primary reason I ditched my G35 after 14 months, Nalley Infiniti seemed to go out of their way to get money out of my wallet

my favorite, charging me for tire rotation on a vehicle where they could not be rotated, then when called on it they claimed they balanced them. Made them take it off the ticket

next fav, 400+ to clear throttle body at 15k because it was required - gee, not in my manual was it.

most nissan dealers can service your infiniti for a lot less.

nalley seems to infer that unless you go with their recommended services that you obviously bought a car outside your "station in life"

The price for an oil change at a Dealer is $99. WOW

Kris,

For every customer like you or me, there are three or four others who will take the dealers advice and agree to have them replace the filter, belts and tranny fluid. No questions asked. Sometimes it is almost a crime. Theft by deception?

What really annoys me is when they are trying to make me look stupid. And it is the same story in Best buy etc. Some ill educated, untrained monkeys are giving me BS and when caught do not care at all.

Just ordered cabin filters in local AutoZone - $25 each. They are Bosh so I hope the quality will be OK. Far cry from $120 dealer wanted. Also just in case got the belts for FX - $12 + $17= $29. Nowhere near what dealer wanted - $200.

Still I do not believe neither belts nor transmission fluid need to be replaced.

That's why they are called $tealers. Owning a MO and an BMW I can tell how they rip you off.

I try to all I can and stay away from the dealerships. Just keep good records of maintenance items if still under warranty.

The folks here on the forum are by and large capable of doing things themselves and the $ealers are going to get $90 or more per hour for their labor that we don't have to spend.

BUT when they tell you things that are NOT TRUE just to make more money that is stealing period.

I have learned to do a lot of reading, Take multiple test drives. I have little conversation with the salesman. I always work with the Internet saleman or Fleet department. They don't know any less but at least are more prone to be quite and just answer a question they will always answer a question even thought they don't have the right answer.

I think they are so busy trying to get a sale to get the comission so they can support themselves they don't have time to read on the job and they would never think about reading at home. They don't think of their jobs as careers. Even those that have been there a long time don't do home work just gain knowledge over time. You might call ahead and ask who has been at the dealership the longes and MAYBE get someone with a bit of knowledge.

Regarding the service department, I go out of my way to make a friend, ask for their card, try to work with the service director IF possible and when I go in I call ahead ask for MY service advisor and bring a starbuck or a donut ( I am having one als so as to not make it obivious) I am out to get extra attention, Hey I am your friend.

There should be a separate forum section for Nissan Dealers in the US.

Because they all came from under the same rock? :D

Well with manufacturers building vehicles with longer maintenance intervals, and everything being computer controlled, there isn't much to replace anymore other than changing fluids, which themselves can go longer since its all synthetic now. So how else do dealers make money on service unless they upsell unnecessary services? It stinks for the customer but in the end, I think its a catch-22 for the dealer.

My local one sells optima batteries, replaces belts (they hop over to the dealer and get the from pats at a discount) same for CVT fluid. I would not be surprised to see the dealers ships start to shrink. My son and I both bought our last car on line via Internet sales managers, No pressure for all that extra, Paint protector, pin strips and junk the "financial closer" pushes on you including tire disposal costs etc. We even bought them without paying sales tax or license plates only the Manufactures certificate of origin and went directly to the Local DMV and paid the taxes and registration there.

With this king of stuff happening, New and uses inventories on the net, build you own car on the net, a email to the Internet sales manager a fax or two and away you go never saw a salesman.
