My LTP warning lamp came on after doing a rear brake job. The on screen display reads flat tire, but clearly the tire is not flat, nor leaking air.
I have read the TSB regarding the tire pressure monitoring system and it talks about an initialization procedure...
1. Would I have to initialize them after removing the tires for a simple brake job?
2. Anyone ever heard of these failing?
3. Can I test or rest them without going in for service?

Dumb question: Did you actually check air pressure(s)?
A tire only has to be a little low (27-28psi) to trigger the alarm. Are all of your original metal valve caps installed? |

| The tire pressures are all normal. Before the on screen display read flat, it was reading 29 psi. During my last oil change, the tech replaced 2 of the original valve stems covers with plastic because he said they were rusted on. Could that be causing a problem? |

If I am not mistaken, the caps double as antenna, so it is possible the receiver is not getting the code. |

Yes, that could be the problem. Swap the metal covers with the plastic covers and see if that changes which tires are indicating low pressure. |

Will do.
If that resolves the issue, will any replacement metal covers work, or do they need to be OEM? |

Was the oil change done at a dealer or gas station.
"rusted on" - caps are aluminum, valve stems are brass.

Not rusted on per se, but corroded on to the point they were damaged upon removal.
I have moved the other two metal caps all around and it makes no difference. The on screen display remains the same.
I am assuming now that I must have a bad sensor? |

First off, plastic caps work fine. I have been using plastic locking Nismo caps for years, and plain black ones work too.
If the tire pressure reaches 27, the alarm will go off. The alarm will not reset until the tire pressure is brought back up to 32 or 33 PSI (recommended pressure). |

My '07 SL has silver colored PLASTIC caps, not aluminum. Yes, they look like metal but for sure are plastic.
And.... my TPS works fine. Pressure shown on display is within 1# of readings with gage.
I don't believe that the caps have anything to do with transmitting the pressure. |
