People:
I am new to this forum but I read all of them and I found it very good.
To put my 5 cents into some of the postings.
1) I installed the Injen CAI lst year as soon as Injen put it for sale and the response increase for my Murano is impressive. and Fuel economy (If I don't floor it) is very good. The only thing that I added is the AEM ByPass valve since when it rains down here you will get large pools of water in the road and I have put water up to lower part of the bumper and I don't want to get water on my engine so you will see it on the pictures. Also I relocated a bracket from the instructions since the initial install the filter was too tight and the movement of the engine will create stress in the bracket. It was a very easy fix.
2) Since I purchased it on November 2004 I had a braking problem that if I braked hard over 80 MPH the car will shake like hell. I went to warranty 3 times and what Nissan did was cut the rotors and at the third time they told me that they can not cut them any more and it will cost me 380.00 to replace the front rotors. Obviously I send them to hell and started investigating and found the EBC Slotted and drilled disks and for the 4 rotors (front and Back) I spent 360.00. Also I purchased the Black Stuff brakes and they perform very good. Better that the original pads and they don't dust my rims as the original did.
here is a link of some pictures of my Murano with the CAI and the EBC rotors: http://picasaweb.google.com/montanez.raul/Murano2004
My next step on it will be the exhaust system. I really liked that posting since a lot of you did research and I like the magnaflow combination. The only problem that I have with the original center muffler is that I keep hitting it with my house entrance since it is an incline and also there are some speed bumps down here that are so big that when I have 4 person sitting on the Murano it will scrap it. and I HATE IT.
On the ECM I have some Performance people that read the code for the ECM and are working in a modification of the software to take the limiter out and increase the performance (This guys are GURUS on Acuras, Hondas and Nissan 350Z). As you guys have posted, this engine and the CVT are already in a good performance mode but lets see what comes out of this one. I'll keep updating as soon as I have more on it. |

| Good work. Welcome to the Forum another modder. Yea! |

| You should try the Kinetix Racing Intake Manifold discussed in another thread in the Performance forum. I'm going to get one for my Maxima and try that first...I'm not sure if I have deep enough pockets for 2 :) |

| Has an intake that looks just like the Kinetix. It sure has the trorque. |

Well People, I have gone ballistic.... I just ordered the Kinetix Racing Intake Manifold for the Murano. Since Hilbe recomended the intake I started conversations with them and after answering all my questions I was convinced so today I placed the order..... My wife is going to kill me but it is better to say sorry than to ask for permition.....
In the Muffler side, I will put it on hold until november (To lower the Credit Card after this purchase) and the only thing that I will do is replace the center muffler with the Magnaflow resonator, my problem is that it keeps rubbing with the incline that I have at the entrance of my garage.
After I install the intake I will post new pictures and let you know how it performs.... |

Awesome. I still am waiting for the funds. Let us know how long it takes to get it. I am eager to order one for the Maxima. Did you order the Phenolic Spacers too (see another thread in the performance forum). You might as well do that also since you'll do 90% of the install while putting on the Kinetix. My goal is to do both at the same time on my Maxima. The spacers run $235 shipped and should get you another 10 hp and 12 tq plus better MPG. |

Well, for that one I will have to wait since I dont have the extra funds now, But probably by December I will do the Mufler and the Spacer.... I have the literature for the one by SKUNK2.com the VQ35 Spacer and it is $240.00 .
About the Intake, they have 2 in stock so I will get it this week so I hope I can install it this weekend..... I promise I will get pictures of the Install and at the same time I am replacing the Spark Plugs since after I take the old manifold out it will be easyget to the back plugs. |

Don't do skunk2...its worthless for our car. The one from nissanworks is the way to go. |

The Skunk2 spacer is for the RWD VQ35DE intake manifold. It's a HUGE difference! It will not work on any FWD VQ35DE.
Look at the picture of the skunk2 spacer, then look at mine. They are different designs for two different motors.
I just didn't want anybody else mixing my spacers with the skunk2 kit. NissanWorks.com is the only company that makes a spacer kit for the FWD VQ35DE motor. |

People:
I did it..... but let me tell you, I am experienced doing mechanics and it took me 6 hours to do both....
The most dificult task was getting the bolt of the power stearing hose clamp and the bracket were the connector is located. everything else was kind of easy but I took a lot of precautions geting the lower intake were the injectors are located because I did not wanted to damage neither the injectors or the surface.
Also I change the spark plugs, yeah they say 100,000 miles but mine has 40,000 and just taking the manifold out and seing the rear ones so easy I decided to change them and forget about them for 3 more years.
Also, the other scary part was taking the upper intake Studs to replace them for the longer ones because of the spacers. I tried the double nut as they explained in the documents, but NO WAY it did not wanted to get out, So I took my Vise Grips and wamed them out.... the new ones I did the double nut and they came in with no problem. For sealing I used the permatex Cooper intake sealant and let them stand for 10 minutes before installing. And after installing I did a hand tork (About 3-5 punds) and after 30 minutes then I did the final tork.
After finishing I realized that the Kinetix intake does not provide for the pressure canister and the sensor, so what I did was install 2 prlugs to the sensor and then Tie rap the sensor to the main cable harness. In the rear the Power Staring bracket I tie rap it to the back firewall not causing stress in the hose
An for those of you who want to see pictures here they are.....
I run the engine for 20 minutes and did the Trhotle procedure without any problem. It is funny since when you acelarete it ist sounds like you have a Turbo under your hood....
I am very tired now so tomorrow is Street Testing and more photos.... |

Nice job! I'm glad everything fit ok.
In order to remove the studs using two nuts, they have to be REALLY tight together or they will just both spin together.
I've come across a few studs that are stubborn and were siezed. But the two nuts will still work. They just have to be tightened together a lot more to keep them from spinning.
Vise grips work, but they damage the studs. Plus, most vise grips will damage the threads too. But that doesn't matter since the new lengthened studs are being installed.
Good job! Thanks for the update. |
