Anyone ever use "Glow wires" - Click HERE for Original Thread

I want to supplement the interior lighting being dis-satified with the current illumination. Comments? Advice? Different types?

Grip, you do have however to complement the look by starting to wear a baseball cap backward... :2:

However I only want to put them under the seat to illuminat the floor better. Possible along the lower edge of the sill strip tucked up under so you don't see them directly. I am not in love with this ada as the light would probably be too btight on the rug as the strip would be so close. I find the lighting on the floor to be weak maybe I'll go with some hidden Leds instead, but thought the wires would spread the light over a larger area.

Actually I am going to use a battery and mount one on a cap so the edge lights up red. . :D

Grip,

I'm looking to do something similar, however they are more for accenting. I plan on placing them in all the vents. I bought some LED off eBay at a super price with caps and wire.

I haven't done the install yet, but I tested them out the other day and they look great. The ones I got match the orange lit interior lighting. I hope to install shortly.

Don,

If you are talking about EL wires (electroluminescent wires)... I have played with them. The weakest link is the inverter. The inverters have a whining sound when power is supplied to them. All my inverters failed prematurely. I'm not sure why. They come in different sizes and colors. The wires are cool to touch andvery flexible. Although, they are flexible, they will not hold the shape you give it, unless you secure it with adhesive. When the wires are not powered, you can see the inside wire (red in color.) I was hoping the wire was all clear when there is no power, to give a stealth look.

I purchased mine from VibeLights.com. I suggest you purchase them with their EZ connection.

Here's my Infiniti FX headlight (halo) project. This is unfinished because I got tired of the purchasing inverters.

ANGLE LIGHTS ! A shame about the inverters. A whining sound would be bad for a constant on in the interior. Maybe if only on when the door are open would be acceptable. I will be sure and make inquiries regarding inverter life.

The leds in Orange in the vents sound very neat, Orange might be a nice complementing color for my application.

I think I mentioned this in another thread:

If you are looking for just accent light, i.e. don't really want to light up an area, then create your own very easily:

1- From Home depot, or some other place buy some plastic window blind rod, you know the thing you grab onto and turn to open and close the blinds.
2- put it in your oven and heat it up until it becomes flexible.
3- Bend it to any shape you want and let it cool down.
4- Drill a small hole on each end and insert a colorful LED - maybe from http://www.ledshoponline.com/
5- Connect to battery and enjoy!
