Trunk lid is a Different Color? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Beemerboy
I have a 04 MO in sun lite copper...when I got the car it was winter and it rained for weeks after...during the better weather days I started to notice that the trunk lid seemed lighter in color than the body...thinking it was just the lighting I didn't think much about it...After a while I was conviced that it was...I did talk to the dealership about this and they opened a report on it....I could never get the timing with the factory guy and me to have them look at it...so now I think that I'm stuck with the two tone look....I think that I might go back to the dealership and see if they have record of my original complaint...three years back and see if I can get that back opened up

Anyone else have this problem?

Did you buy it used? If not, did it have a few, say more than 15 or so, miles on it?

If used or new with some miles, you may want to invest in a CarFax lookup.

This could have resulted in a repaint of the lid or it's replacement. The paint to color just didn't match. I suggest some picture when the ligh relly shows what you see and take them to the dealer General manager and inquire about transport or pre delivery damage "Which must by law" be reported to the buyer but almost never is.

I work on nissans at the port of entry and what I can tell you is the hatches on murano's always are off a little bit. this is because they are not steel and are painted off the car with a different type of paint per say. all plastics parts including bumpers mouldings etc are painted using different paint then the steel body parts. what happens when they do this you will normally see some difference in color. from all the murano's I look at everyday I can say there is a slight difference. you can see it best where the piece above the quarter glass meets the hatch. but also cars sometimes need to have panels painted before they get sold. this damage occurs in transport and unless a lot of things had to be fixed you would never know it had been done. they don't have to disclose it to the buyer.
bottom line thought is if the color OS that far off the dealer can do a warranty on it and repaint it..
you might me lucky and get a good job ;o)

Beemerboy-

I hate to say it, but I don't think you have a leg to stand on. Too much time has passed. If the car was a week or a month old the dealer would be more inclined to consider the issue. However, after three years it is hard to assign responsibility.

crashdump has a good point that unfortunately favors the dealer. The rear hatch, being a plastic composite assembly, is painted separate from the body so it is possible that in some cases it is not a 100% match.

Let's assume the dealer decides in your favor and is willing to repaint the hatch. Will that solve the problem? I doubt it. You would have to have the whole car repainted to guarantee a 100% perfect match.

Good luck.

However I have had repairs to older cars and they did a great job matching the older paint. Modern computers read the existing paint color and can IMO do a good job if they try. Just recently I took a section of wal from the interor of my 12 year old home and Sherin Williams made a can of paint that matched the faded paint very well.

I talked with the dealership and because I had complained about it when the car was new and nothing was done they are going to reopen the ticket and see about getting if fixed...as for why it is this way don't know but every other MO that have looked at doesn't have this.
