So how many of you actually take you Mo in to a dealership for regular maintenance? I'm trying to see if the 30K, 60K and so on is really nessisary to have done at a dealer or just follow the Edmunds maintenance.
Kris
You should add third category - self-performed....

I do it myself and I do believe some members of this forum do the same....

I do it myself.

I would as well but never have the time. Really just trying to find out if it is worth spending the money to go to a dealer for the samethings I can get done at a cheaper price at another shop.

You just answered your own question. A reputable mechanic can do the same things for less.

I do the work myself as well. I MIGHT take it in to my mechanic (non-Nissan) for the 60k service, simply because I'd like him to check out everything he can think of to make sure it's all good. But he'll check far more things than the dealer, charge MUCH MUCH less, and I'll be able to trust him to not rip me off, not recommend services that aren't needed, and not damage my car while it's in his shop.

But that's a ways off. I just hit 36k now, and am relieved that I purchased an extended warranty.

Absolutely no reason to take it to the dealer, unless you happen to be one of the VERY rare individuals that has an exceptionally good service department.

For the Murano, which I bought in Feb '03, I did not want to be the "teacher" of someone at a non-dealer shop. Hopefully the techs at the dealer had at least seen under the hood before mine came in. Now that it's going on 5 years old, I wouldn't have problems taking it to an "import" shop.

We took the Murano in for a "free" check-up (and oil change, since it was going there anyway).
They recommended, for the paltry sum of 689.99+:
CVT/ Differential fluid change (DIY that one)
Airfilter, belts, fuel filter, fuel system service, and radiator cap(?)
various inspections (which were just done for free?)
fill washer fluid.
One axles set of tires, rear brakes, etc.

We also got a free empty Don Pablos take out out bag, date and time stamped while the vehicle was in getting serviced!

Let's see... there is no serviceable fuel filter on the MO. Do you really want someone working on your car who does not know that little tidbit?

I've gotten to the point where, unless I'm getting some problem diagnosed, I specify no test drives, and take a photo of the odometer with my cell. I've seen how some of the techs at the dealer drive the customer cars!

Technically a "road test" was part of the inspection process.
But it won't likely be going back there for service, either.
They do sell the NS2 CVT fluid for 15.00 a quart, though.

of a reputable mechanic I would let a "reputable" mechanic do the work. I would pay the premium of 10% to the dealer just in case I need some warranty work in the future. Just my opinion.

Mark me down to for doing my own maintenance. The only time I take it to the dealer is when I cannot do it as I do not have enough time or the correct tools to do it.

I too do it all myself. The Mo only goes to the dealer for warranty work.
Kris
Hm, interesting, ,most of the replies say "myself'........wonder why?.....:D

I realize I'm probably in the minority, but I took my MO to the dealer for a 15k checkup today. I spent a hell of a lot more on this car than I ever have in the past, and decided I'd rather do the scheduled maintenance stuff at a dealer for warranty purposes. I paid just under $200.

Was it necessary? Absolutely not. But the luck we typically have with vehicles, it was worth the peace of mind to us.
