I posted this in another thread but no one looked....
Anyway, I'm thinking of using my IPAQ RX3715 as a portable NAV system. I found this setup on Ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-GPS-for-HP-...VQQcmdZViewItem
...and wondered if anyone else had this type of setup (PDA connected to GPS via Bluetooth).
I'm thinking for $100, if it works, can I go wrong?
If you have one of these, waddya think? Do you like it? Is there another GPS component/software package I should consider?
Any downsides to this setup?
I would just move my Magellan to my Daughters car. It still works fantastic, I just need updated maps... |

3putt,
i am using the setup with ipaq 2495 and a wired GPS, whereas my brother is using ipaq 6300 with a bluetooth setup. its is awesome. i have the tomtom 6 with latest north american maps (got it as a "GIFT") on a 2GB SD card. and whoaa.... i got a turn by turn navigation system....
one thing i must recommend is to see how much processor power you have in 3715... ahh, just checked its 400MHz... it should work like a charm....
i also got the Navigon software that BMW uses... but that thing is 8.9 GB..... it has maps of europe, north america and middle east..... now thats what i call a beauty software..... it actually takes voice directions too.....
got any more questions... you know where to find me....;) |

Mr3putt,
This link has the info. I use the a HP Ipaq with iguidance Navigator4 software and a globalstat BT-338 GPS bluetooth reciever. This GPS recieve is flawless. It has a super long lasting battery, Sirf III for accuracy. I purchased the package from iguidance which included the reciever, software, and AKRON vent mount. The software is great and the nice thing about it is that you can use it with a laptop or PDA. MOst only allow one or the other. The cost was around $200 - not sure what the price is know.
I would do some research on the GPS unit. Holux is a well known brand. If it has no negative feedback then I would take the gamble. It does have the Sirf III with provides more accurracy. You also want WAAS which provide location based on ground installed GPS and allows better triangulated signal. Not sure which software they are providing either which is big. It the software stinks, then it doesn't matter what GPS unit you have.
Good Luck,
