Lost a tire, how to replace - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have a 2005 SE AWD and I just had to replace a tire with a nail in the sidewall. It was the rear passenger side. I have the stock Eagle LS tires that came with it when I got it new.

I have 38,800 miles on the tires and have been rotating them every 7,500 miles. Do I need to replace all 4 tires at the same time? I've heard I need the tread to match on all 4 for the AWD and also I only need the 2 in the back to be the same. I already replaced the flat one with another stock tire. Anyone know how I should replace the rest?

It depends how worn the tires are. Usually I say if the tires are less than 50% worn, you can just a put new on and it won't upset anything. If its more than that, at the very least replace both tires on that axle, or even all four. At nearly 40,000 miles I imagine your stock tires are pretty worn out so it might be time for new tires anyways.

No; you don't have to replace all 4 tires; unless you want to. Your MO dosen't drive AWD all the time; mostly it runs in FWD until AWD is needed or engaged. And even then, it is only AWD up to a certain speed. Did your MO come with a full spare with alum. rim? My '03 did and I used that as my other tire when the same thing happened. If not; I would recommend putting the new one at the back so your steering and primary drive tires have the same tread wear and run the same. If you put the new one up front; it will have an affect on steering when you run into wet condition or any other adverse condition since you will have one new and one old in front. It will not be as noticable in the back. Without having a look at your tires; I would recomend just getting 1 more new one to run beside your new one. That way, you will always have one pair new and one pair worn. If you do get 1 more new one(so 2 in total) you rotate the tires; the new ones go up front and the worn ones to the back. Also remember to never mix left side tires with right side tires. Hope that helps you with your question.

The AWD is engaged whenever the front wheels are slipping regardless of speed.

HuskyFan is correct. AWD engages at any speeds when AWD selector is in the AUTO mode. It is when the selector is in the LOCK mode that it will switch back to AUTO mode after speeds exceed 19 mph. Thanks for clarifying that HuskyFan;)
