| I ordered four new tires from Treadepot.com at $80 each for Murano only to find out that the Kumho tires are on back order and it could take several weeks before they can ship. Same with Tire Rack. A friend recommended a local tire shop that had these tires in stock and I called them to-day. The price for the whole package including installation, balancing, new stems and disposal is $364 for 4 tires. I am gettin new tires on saturday as thats the only day I can take some time off. I have read some excellent reviews on these tires and I wanted to find out if these were really good for the Murano. Couple months ago I had 4 new Kumho solus KR21 installed in my wife's Toyota Highlander which was a different size but a vast improvement over the stock Toyo Tires which lasted only 18000 miles. The Good Years on the Murano have done very well with 38000 miles on board and some tread left but the last time I took it to the dealer for a tire rotation at 35000 miles they refused to rotate it saying that I needed new tires. I got angry when I knew that thre was some life left in those tires and I drove back home and rotated it myself! The dealers price for new Good Years was $680 for the whole package including life time rotation. The Kumho tires are roughly half the price of the good years an have twice the tread life with a 80000 mile warranty and a UTQG rating of 640 as compared to 360 on the Good Years. All the info that I have so far including my experience with the Toyota Highlander suggests that its a no brainer to go with the Kumho Solus. What are your thoughts? |

Auto makers pick tires for many reasons but certainly not for longevity. An OEM tire is usually softer for a plusher ride, a definite plus when selling a vehicle. But it also has to be cheap with the high volume that they are buying.
People feel comfort and efficiency differently from each other. For some, it has to be noiseless, for others it has to swallow bumps and creaks, for others it has to be economical and last very long and for others it has to feel sporty in curves.
One thing is certain, a tire is always a compromise between comfort, economy, adaptability to road conditions, sportiveness, and styling. It all depends on what is the ranking that each one give to each of these factors. No tire is perfect and while auto makers try to keep the cost very low, the engineers usually pick a well balanced tire for the vehicle. |

All IMHO:
Any tire with a 680 TWR will have a very hard compound - translates into a hard ride,
You can't compare a Highlander (which is a truck) with the MO - apples & oranges.
That said, I hope you enjoy them! |

The Highlander is no more truck than the Murano. |

| Highlander & Murano are both built on a car chassis (Camry vs Altima). They are both crossovers SUV and are direct competitors. The Highlander handles more like a Camry and is designed to be as neutral as can be so the driver gets no excitement from the driving experience. Excitement is not part of the Toyota philosophy. The Murano is, well, we all know about the MO... :roadtrip: |

Correct me if I am wrong. A high UTQG rating of 680 actually translates into a softer tire hence it lasts longer. A tire with a rating of 360 is comparitively harder translating into less tread life and firmer ride. Similarly a S rated tire is softer as compared to a T,H or a V rated tire. BTW Highlander is not a truck. It is built on the same chassis as a Camry. I think you are getting your facts mixed up. You may be thinking about the 4Runner which is built on a truck chassis.
Thanks

Don't know about UTQG rating but any soft thread tire I have ever owned wore out a lot faster than the harder ones I had.... |

muranomax-
A higher number usually means it is a harder, longer-wearing tread compound. A lower number represents a softer tread compound that wears quicker.
