Silver trim...oxidation? - Click HERE for Original Thread
ncurr
I just purchased an 07 Murano and all the silver trim (door handles, logos) have some kind of coating on them. Looks like heavy oxidation. Anyone know how to remove this? I've tried a basic wax and it didn't do anything. I'm not even sure what kind of material these are. Logo in front feels like plastic door handles are a bit heavier... Any input would be helpful.

Thanks
SIM
Door handles are made of metal, the rest is plastic.

Are you sure it is oxydation? I mean a 2007... I would start using a cleaning wax, any good one, Zaino, Zymol, Mothers, Meguiars...

If this does not work but I doubt it, I suggest a good quality fine compound like 3M. Don't overdo it on the plastic because you'll go through quickly.

Again, this is a 2007 and the trim is probably still covered. You could have these buffed or replaced free of charge by the dealer.

That is all you need to say. Bring it back to the dealer and have him properly prep the car for you. It never should have left the lot in that condition. I would not attempt to clean it yourself because if something goes wrong you will be liable. Let the dealer deal with it like he should of in the first place.

By the way.... Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new MO!!

I agree with Joe - go back to the dealer.

It sounds like the plastic protective coating is still on the finish - no prep whatsoever.

Thanks for your input. I will go back to the dealer.

So totally agree with you they did not remove the prepping agent the plastic sheet glue that is put on the car during transport...I can't think of the name at this point....make the dealership remove it....if all else fails...mineral spirits will do the trick then a wash and wax will cover you..Make the dealer do that for you
