Murano Insurance costs??!!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just got my first auto insurance bill from State Farm.

In NJ, went from $1,450 for my 1999 Jeep to $2,000 for the SL Murano (loaded)

What the??

Anyone else find BIG jumps in their insurance rates?

I was told I went from a "15" on my Jeep to a "23" for theMurano, how the insurance company lists prices.

bites the big one...

Ron
My insurance increased by $300 a year with my SL AWD. I had a 98 Mercedes C230 before it got totalled.
I've been told (by my insurance broker) that insurance on new "SUV's" (3 years or newer) are the most expensive.

Right now I have 12 year old Twin Turbo Dodge Stealth and a NEW 'anything' will mean a big jump in insurance for me.

Mike
My insurance went up a couple of hundred dollars to slightly below $2k a year. I used to drive a BMW 3-series.

I'm surprised that the insurance rate in NJ is higher than in CA. I thought CA top them all.
My insurance for the Murano is just over $1000 per year in Pittsburgh, PA area.
Mine went from 1350 on my max to 1600 for the Murano.

Ronzo: Do you have AAA? If so call them, they do insurance and might be able to save you a few hundred $$$.
My old car was 11 years old and really not worth anything. Going to the Murano added a "whopping" $110 to my annual insurance bill - and that's with State Farm in Florida!
Wow!! Insurance is expensive south of the border! Other than moving to Ontario, Canada check to see if "Motors Insurance" is offered in your state. Motors Insurance is actually car insurance offered by General Motors. No, you don't have to drive a GM vehicle (obviously, since my Murano is insured with them, as well as my wife's Frontier and my last two Pathfinders) and no, you don't have to go through GM dealerships. The kicker is that they're VERY VERY selective on who they insure. This way, they keep the rates much lower than any other place I've checked. In Canada, they're only available for Ontario; For the US, I don't know -- Detroit, Michigan for sure. They're excellent to deal with (I've had two claims: one for vandalism and one for a f#*@ing hit & run, both on my first Pathfinder, and I had checks in my hand in less than 72 hours.) I have the full meal deal for coverage, with $500 Cdn deductibles, and my premium is only $880 Cdn per year. Compared to my 99 Pathfinder (which the Murano replaced), it only went up $50/year.

I'm 39 and have a perfect record for the past 6 yrs. Before that, I had the two claims I mentioned above (about 10 years ago) and a photo radar ticket that's now 6.5 years old (so it's gone).
I was pleasantly surprised at only a $250.00 per year increase in CT. A small price to pay... :D My agent told me it had to do with it being a new vehicle with no history not so much the fact that it's an SUV. I also priced a Highlander and it was only $25.00 more a year. Let's hope that next year the rates fall a bit...
Ours for the MO is only $435 for 6 months. It actually went down about $200 after selling my RSX Type S and purchasing this one...
my insurance actually went down from what i was paying with me 02 Maxima
they said that it was because the maxima was stolen more, since they really have no stats on murano theft.

:D

but of course everyone is gonna wanna try and steal this sweet ride now.

:x
Finally called the insurance company...right now I pay <$400 for 6 months on a '95 Integra GS-R, for the '03 Murano it would be between $441 - $461 depending on AWD/SE/SL...not a bad increase, considering it's newer by 8 years
jsprechman - How are you adjusting from the integra? I went from a 92 integra GS to the murano. Although I really really like the Murano, the integra was a great car, espcially for all the abuse I put it through. Hopefully the Murano will prove to be just as good.

My insurance on the integra is $328 and $472 (6 months) for the murano which is suprising since the integra is over ten years old.
nachomami - havn't yet bought the murano, but i think i'll adjust just fine. Too many speeding tickets in the Integra so even though I want the g35 coupe, and loved driving it, I'm going to "settle" for the murano, it drives "almost" like a car I felt. Just have to be careful in taking those tight turns i like to do sometimes....the integra definitly does take a decent beating, it's a really well built car - Joel
i pay $850/yr for insurance for the murano in colorado
I pay about $800/yr in PA - went down about $50/yr from what I was paying on a 2000 Audi TT Quattro.

Around $1800 every 6 months here in Virginia. I'm 19 and my insurance company hasn't seen the crash test reports yet, hopefully it will go down some next year.

I am paying $950.00 a year in PA. I am 26 years old, married, one speeding ticket on my record. That is with 0 comp deductible and 500 for collision. I didn't think it was too bad. It went up $95 from my 01 Pathfinder....
GMTURBO43
For the first few months we were paying Pathfinder rates because there wasn't any data on the Murano in January '03. It has gone down since then.
JEME
My went up about $35 from my 02 Maxima. I pay about $700 a year.
ah_bear23
i am paying $1400 a yr in CA

I am suprise with the low insurance cost by Murano in CA,becuase my last car, 01 Honda civic, costs me $2000 insurance a yr. By the way, I am 22. hope it will getting cheaper.

I'm paying about $860 a year with AAA in SoCal, but the MO is my 2nd car and I've got multi-car and good driver discounts...

Posting insurance rates doesn't help much unless you include your age, location, and driving record. Obviously someone who is 60 and has had many years of good driving record will get a much lower rate than a hot rodder 17 year old who totalled his previous vehicle. FOr those of you who have posted already, it would be helpful if you edited your previous post instead of posting a new one.

I am 24 with a perfect driving record. My 6 month rate for central Illinois is $600 from Progressive.
SugarRushMurano
I have a 1996 Audi A4, it was $535 per 6 months
Now for the murano, the premium becomes $432 per 6 months.
So around $864 per year .....in MD

I am amaze that a brand new suv cost much lesser than my old euro car. BTY, i am with the gekko opps..geiko

You guys are lucky. I'm getting fleeced at $4k in NJ.

And that's with LoJack, all the base Murano security features, and a $500 deductable.

$334.00 a month is like having a leprechaun kicking me in the teeth once every 30 days.

I'm 23. Two speeding tickets since I started driving at 17.

I've had 2 speeding tickets as well since as I was 17, but I took traffic school for both and they are off my record. Is it something about NJ that makes your insurance so expensive?

Could very well be. I moved about 15 miles to a different county in NC. Insurance rates went down by 15%.

By the by... I traded in a '91 S-10 Blazer (Liability-only on the insurance) for the MO. Insurance went up about $280 a year (full-coverage on the MO).

Location: NC
Driving record: clean (at the DMV), but two accidents with ins co)
Age: Look outside. See the dirt? I'm older!

I have Geico Insurance in NY and my policy only went up like $150 for a year going from a 2001 Dodge Stratus to a 2004 Nissan Murano SL AWD. Does not seem like a big jump to me. being that the MO is more than 2 times the value of the Stratus.

I have heard from many people that live in New Jersey that each time they add or get a new vehicle their policies seem to jump up considerably. It might be a local issue with your carrier, you might want to shop around and see if you can get a better price on it.

Also, how are your driving habits? any tickets, accidents or claims on the policy? that also will affect your rate.

You are my hero!

How long is the waiting list? If I were to sign up in a year or so you think I would be able to get one?

The rates are higher, in NJ. I think it has to do with the insurance companies that do business in NJ have to meet certain requirements by the state, and several big names have left the insurance business in NJ leaving fewer companies in the state, and giving the ones that stay more ability to raise rates. I hav heard that some ins. cos are comming back ant those that are there now are lowering rates.

But the state has to change the regulations before they will see any real reducton in cost of policies.

I’m 33y.o. married male, residing in Northern New Jersey(close to NYC), with a good driving record.
My yearly premium for Murano is 1,212.00 with 1,000.00 deductible comprehensive and collision ins. It would go up to 1, 400.00 if I were to choose 500.00 deductible for both. Moreover, it brings me a 25% discount for my 300M which is 740.00 after discount, liability only. BTW my provider is Liberty Mutual.
Comparing to some of you people it’s a lot. However, the Greater New York Metro Area is way to pricey.
I did run some numbers with All State in New York just for fun. I didn’t laugh after, and I do feel sorry for you guys .

$860 a year with AAA in SoCal, 36 years old, single, driving since I was 16 years old, own a home, 2nd car on the insurance policy (primary driver is a 1997 Audi A4), no tickets, no accidents (though recently I had a rear-ender that wasn't my fault), LoJack discount and multi-car discounts applied.

Snow Mo: As for the '05 Lotus Elise, Lotus is planning on bringing 3000 per year into the US, so I don't think you'll have any problems getting one. But I'd put your name on a waiting list soon. I'm #43 on the wait list at Newport European, but other dealers (esp. East Coast dealers) already have 70+ people on the wait list. Each dealer's allocation will vary, but many of the people past 45 on the wait list will be getting the following years car. Feel free to email me privately w/any questions.
