405 for 2 tires...they're out of their birdssss.

o6murano-

In my opinion $405 for two (2) tires is reasonable if the dealer mounts them, installs new valve stems, performs a high-speed balance, and then pays for dinner for two at Tavern On The Green followed by two tickets to a Broadway play. That seems reasonable to me.

because they're "low" according to them...........but they really have over 50% of tread left, they said either you get new tires or we aren't and can't authorize your CVT being replaced under warranty, it's almost like blackmail
o6murano
Oh and I guess since they know I'm not very stupid and know that their stealers, they decided to call my mom to say it needs better tires than the ones quoted originally and these are 495 for too and I refuse to drive with 2 different tires, thus the dealer now gets 990$ for a set of tires...****ing assholes...

tell them that if they continue they story you will end it with AK47....kidding only....

Ask them to measure the tread using calibrated equipment. Ask the to show you written procedure how to do it and how they have done it.....tell them to show you measurement reports and calibration certificate for test equipment........tell them to show you written tire manufacturer recommendations for minimum tread....

This story only supports our opinion about dealers.....sad....

Good luck.....fight them! You deserve to win...

 WHAT?!?! Are you serious?! Were they serious?!

The tires have nothing whatsoever to do with the demise of your CVT.

I have never heard of such crap. This is a new low for Nissan dealers. I would contact Nissan Consumer Affairs and report this incident and then I would post the name of the dealer and Service Manager so any members in your area can avoid them.

That is called robbery, plain and simple.

have you paid a visit to your local television station??....
o6murano
Mehh they're ridiculous :( but I know if I wouldve fought with them they'd pull some other ****, tomorrow when I get the car back maybe I'll report them to nissan
Kris
o6murano

let me get it straight:
- your dealer put 4 new tires on your Murano for $900+ even though it was not needed
- they blackmail you that if you do not agree on new "upgraded" tires your CVT warranty is gone
- you agree even though you know it was not necessary
- you will pay for that your hard earn $$

Are you serious? Are you really letting the dealer get away with that? :8:

Please tell me it was a bad joke......

Only in New York.........

Are you going to report your dealer's activities to Nissan Corporate? With all due respect, if you don't then you are a fool.

what joe said...

If you do not want to use the dealer, just dropship them from Tirerack to a local recommended shop (Tirerack has a list). That's what I do. Tirerack FTW!
nissanlove
in o6murano's case eric, the dealer will not release his murano or repair the cvt UNLESS he purchases new tire.
ekaxel
I thought he already bought the tires....

They (the dealer) needs to prove how one is related to the other. In other words, how does having a tire at 50% treadwear contribute to a failed CVT? I would tell them that they're on crack and get Nissan customer service involved.

Oooh I did not read that. Ok for the life of me I have no idea how having low tread on the tires is related to the CVT. The dealer is really reaching deep into the doo-doo to come up with that one.

Edit: I am thinking about this and perhaps they have a wild idea that having one axle with significantly more worn tires than the other will lead to a difference of wheel speeds and therefore overtax the AWD system? Yeah I'm grabbing for straws here. The difference would be so small you could make them "equal" by just adjusting the tire pressures.

I bet they are saying one tire has more thread wear than the others so it turns faster and is damaging the transmission....:D :D :D

With AWD systems, the tires on the same axle should be roughly the same diameter. But you CANNOT guarantee that tires wear the same as you cannot guarantee that you'll make equal amounts of right vs. left turns. Also, the nature of the Murano (or any other car), more power will ALWAYS be applied to one tire than another on the same axle, so one tire will ALWAYS exhibit more wear. Hence why rotations are important.

If the dealer is being a jerk about this, go find another dealership and get Nissan customer service involved, the Bureau of Automotive Repair, and the Better Business Bureau. At the very minimum, just rotate the "equal" rear tires to the front and get your car out of there.
