Need new rotors/pads cryo? - Click HERE for Original Thread
MuranoLvr
Hello all,
I don't visit this forum too often but my wife has a 03 Murano. Its time to replace the rotors and pads (55,000 miles on rotors) and I'm looking for some suggestions. I have been looking through a lot of posts on this and I'm really leaning towards the portfield rotors and pads (thanks to Eric L.). Has anyone actually installed this combo yet?

I was planning to install slotted rotors and a good pad as I've had good results on my Maxima's in the past (I kill rotors, my G35 has less than 10,000 miles and I think I'm already feeling the shimmy), but I'm starting to debate doing this. She's not as hard on them as I am but she does mostly highway (DC beltway) driving, which heats those things up no matter how you drive. I don't want to replace the pads too often, but I want her to have good solid brakes (she loved the drilled/slotted w/axxis metal on my Maxima).

I was thinking about trying the cryo treated rotors with the R4-S pads. She can definitely drive that Murano so whatever can handle it is what I need (short of a BBK).

Thanks!!!!

The Murano's OEM brake set-up is very good, as evidenced by the braking test results. Slotted and drilled rotors add more to the visual appeal than actual performance enhancements.

I've replaced mine with OEM and have been very happy with their performance; good value and wear. I'm concious about my braking and don't want to use a different set-up that I'm not familiar with. Why change something that works.:)

As I have posted before on this subject=

If I can make the anti lock vibrate at will with stock stuff, why upgrade?

First off, Howdy folks...I'm really a Ford guy (no flames please) but when I test drove the Murano with the better half, we had to have one.

Anyhow, I've been using Hawk pads for my Lightning and Mustang Gt for years now and was wondering if any of you have tried them on your Muranos? If many of you are using factory pads, wheres a good place to look on the net to purchase them?

BTW, don't waste your money on drilled and slotted rotors unless your doing track...

Thanks..Cliff

Still using the R4-S Porterfields right now and they are outstanding. The stock pads were fine but the Porterfields really do well under aggressive braking (they do produce more dust though since they are carbon-kevlar, not ceramic). I used R4-S exclusively on my Maxima, and will continue to do so on my Murano. Best brake pad I've ever used, although I lean more towards braking performance than dust free or long life.

If you do get the Porterfields, don't forget to ask Wendy at Porterfield for the .org discount (details on an old thread I posted in group buys I think).

Thanks Eric. Are you using Porterfield rotors as well? I'm not going the drilled/slotted route with these but I want her to have a good grip with as little fade as possible, I don't care about dust so much as long as they grip. On the beltway here if your pads don't grip (or if they fade) you're eating the bumper of the person in front of you. People seem to stop for absolutely no reason don't they?

I put the drilled/slotted on my Maxima because I trashed 2 stock sets within a year (I'm a late braker, plus it was just fun to drive). After I put those on, with the hotter pad, I never had another problem. I now have an Infiniti G35 that only has 10,000 miles and is starting to shake a little when I brake :( (too bad mine is a 2005 and they stopped putting the brembo's on in 04). Totally worth it for my needs on the Maxima, but not hers on the Murano.

Thanks for the help guys!

No, stock rotors on the MO for now. On my Maxima, yes, I have both Porterfield rotors and pads. The Porterfield rotors are in fact manufactured by Brembo, so they are sometimes called "Brembo blank rotors" since they are OEM fitment and are neither drilled nor slotted (but can be cryotreated like mine were).

porterfield?! I've got these on my 66 mustang and they are incredible brakes. they're lousy when cold, but as soon as they warm up, they stop you on a dime. I can't imagine what a set of drilled rotors and pads run, but my shoes were twice OEM, at $100. Hope you're prepared to spend some $$$$.
