Nissan has announced (in Automotive-R&T) that the 2010 Maxima will be available with a clean diesel engine that will outperform the current V6, and get 13% better mileage.
Sadly, nothing about the MO..... |

| They must be getting the engine from Renault..... |

| Yes it is from Renault. Sorry, I forgot to mention that... |

| Seems like a very little increase in mileage for a diesel... |

| I'll run right out and order two. Idiot stuff like that makes me sick. I bet the price increase for the "Wonderful" diesel would buy gas for 5 years. |

Don,
note that the 10% mileage increase is despite better engine performance! If the diesel had slightly lesser performance than the VQ I bet the fuel economy would improve by 30%!
I drove quite recently a BMW with highway speeds (160 kph) and the fuel economy was 6 - 7 l/100 kms. (I am sure our friends North will do the conversion...;) ). The car had a diesel engine and I was quite happy with its performance. Problem here is that diesel still has bad stigma. And the only way to bring it back is to prove that it has better performance!
Myself - I would go for a modern diesel in a heart beat! No questions ask. |
