So currently I'm at ~50K miles and have a 7year/75K extended warrenty and have already replace the tranny at 25K. Its also a 2003 Mo and not paid off yet, owe 10K. So with all the problems with the tranny and no one is sure if/when it will go out and I don't want to pay 5-6k for repair outside of warrenty. I would only keep it til about 2011/12.
If you had my Mo would you trade in before the warrenty went or keep it and hope the tranny doesn't go? I am trying to find an old muscle car as well so it doesn't help to buy a new car. |

I guess it all depends on two things - 1) your financial position, and 2) your karma. Can you afford an unexpected $6,000 repair bill? Do you feel lucky enough that your CVT will not fail twice on the same car?
Me? I plan on selling my MO just before the powertrain warranty expires. Nissan does a lousy job supporting warranty customers, so I can only imagine how they treat off-warranty owners.

Buy a Chrysler! Just kidding! Actually if I were in your situation, I would probably trade it; you should have some equity if you trade it, and you probably wouldnt feel any payment shock. You will have a fresh new car, fresh new warranty and new car smell! |

It still has 10K miles worth of Powertrain warranty left. |

For someone who sounds like there cash flow is tight (still paying on an 03) how can you justify selling the MO & never even getting into the extended warranty period. Did you buy it for peace of mind of the guy thats buying your car? Am I missing something, luck doesn't come into play, with the warranty you don't have to worry about paying for another tranny even if it does go.
Yes you have about 6-7k of value, but having a car paid off & covered by warranty into 2011 is the better route. It frees up you cash, if you really intend to get a "muscle car." Otherwise its just a pipe dream. |

I have 30K in worry free driving, which puts me at around mid 2010 in which I will still owe about 2k. Cash flow isn't tight and I would like to keep it until 2011/12 if the tranny holds up and sell for ~10K to buy my new car. But if the tranny goes again even under warrenty I'm done with it. |

My extended warranty expires next June. I will have 100k miles on the odo and the Murano will be 5 years old. Oh, and right now I do own the Murano. My initial plan was to keep it 1 or 2 years beyond the extended warranty. However, I just cannot imagine spending $6k on an 6 years old car just to repair tranny! So I am 90% confident she will go. What will I get next? I am not sure. But I am sure not a car with a CVT costing $6k to repair!
It could be a M35 or G37......who knows......
NO CVT THOUGH!!!!! |

| I'm in the same situation. I have an 04 MO with 58k and also have extended warranty till 75k. My MO is paid off and i'm reluctant of having car payment again. If I do replace the MO it will be something without the CVT, I never really liked or got used to it. |

MurAndo-
NO. There is no off-the-shelf automatic tranny that will simply drop-in as a replacement for the CVT.
What don't you like about the CVT?

| I am definitely getting rid of the Mo before my warranty is up. I have already replaced the CVT at only 27K once before. I would personally prefer a conventional 5/6 speed transmission over a CVT because I truly feel it would be a lot more reliable. For now I'll just allow it to continually aid me in great fuel economy, but unfortunately my Mo's gotta go. I really miss the feeling of my car shifting through the gears. It would be cool it If I would be able to pop a FX35 tranny in my Mo! |
