Black window border trim? - Click HERE for Original Thread

What do you all use to clean the black trim around the windows? Not the rubber, but the black "glossy" pieces that surround the side windows?

I've noticed some discoloration on these areas on my MO... rainbow-ish and sometimes just downright dirty looking even after a good washing. I didn't want to try anything abrasive as I didn't want to scratch it up or ruin the surface. I did try a small test area with some polish and then with some cleaner/wax and a ridiculous amount of black showed up on the applicator pad. I wasn't sure if this was the grime or the surface of the piece, so I stopped.

Ideas?

collinite.
I've never seen it lift any color. Looks like glass on black.

Same here, black on glass. Perhaps the dealer shipping coating is still on the glass?

I have noticed it, too. Especially on the Boss Lady's PT Cruiser. It's oxidation. Hence the black coming off when you polish/wax.

Polish, wax, and/or refinish: the only solution to removing oxidation.

Refinish?

Does that mean that by polishing/waxing to remove the oxidation I'm going to damage the finish?

I didn't know they put a coating on the black trim... but maybe?

I doubt it... it's a 2004. I would assume any dealer coatings are long gone by now.

You want to use a chemical based cleaner / polish...look for a designated plastic cleaner....Plastix is one Novus is the one that I use...they are not abrasive and will not hurt anything
