Hi all. This is my first post here. I've been registered for about a month, but just found my activation notice in my spam folder (DOH!)

Just leased a 2007 SL AWD one week ago. Like it VERY much. Smaller than the 2004 Quest we just came from. That was a massive van with loads of cargo space. Will take a little getting used to the reduced space with a wife and 3 kids.

First things I want to add on is all weather floor mats, rubber cargo liner and later, a box for the roof for skis, camping gear, etc. Has anyone tried the Nissan Sport box. Any idea of the price in Canada?

Looking forward to talking with you all! :)

Pops-

Welcome to the forum.

What is the "Sport box" you are referring to? Is it a roof-mounted cargo carrier?

Yeah, Nissan calls it the Roof Top Sports Box.

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the forum, nice to see another Canadian on board. The sport box sounds like my ski box that I have had for a long time. It is a Yakima rocket box and it does double duty for hauling ski, camping gear and anything else that is long that needs a cover for.

My advice is to check out the after market for these type of boxes as I am sure the dealer cost will be high. :2: :2: :2:

Welcome. Glad to have you on board...

Thanks everyone.

Stoker (or anyone else), does the Yakima Rocket Box attach directly to the factory rails, or do you have to buy the cross bars AND the box?

You need to purchase the crossbars from Nissan, they are different from the ones that our cousins from the US use but that are very easy to install and take off. The ones that Yakima sells cause the ski box to sit too high to fit under a standard garage door.

Welcome Pops!
I have the Thule Rapid Railing 754xt. Don't bother with the Nissan OEM crossbars; they mount into a specific bolt holes on the side rails and are not adjustable up or down the siderails.
The Thule 754's(they make 751; 754; and 756 depending on the width of the load bars) are easy to adjust and mount in minutes without any tools. They are also very strong; see my gallery for the 10 4"x4"x10' Pressure treated lumber I used to hual on them and other sheet goods too. I also use it for my Thule bike racks.
You can find them listed on eBay for a good price. I also use the Thule Cascade 1700 cargo box for camping and skiing equipment. The new ones have a tool-less quick mount system and opens up on either side for easy access. When I'm not using it; I store this box up on the garage ceiling using (yes) the Thule Box/Storage Lift #571. Perfect for extra storage space using the cargo box to store stuff in.
Good luck with your search....

Thanks for the welcomes and the great info. I saw the Thule Frontier cargo box in Canadian Tire for not a bad price. It says it holds up to six pair of skis, so that might be big enough. I don't really want to spend 7 or 8 hundred on a box and railing. I don't, as well, want to waste my money on some junk either.

Thanks again for the information!

The OEM cross-rails do slide up and down the roof rack slide rails so that they can be adjusted to what ever you want to mount up there. Unless they have changed the way they have made them since 03, but I see the OEM crossbars with ski box's attached all over the city and no one I have talked to has ever had a problem.

Greetings from a fairly new Mo owner. I am in a totally different boat than you. I went from a tiny PT Cruiser to the Mo. The amount of space is incredible in the Murano.

As far as floor mats is concerned, one of the salesmen at Jaremko Nissan in Spokane, WA turned me on to the WeatherTech floormats. They have a 3" "pan" to keep rain and snow off the carpeting. Here is the link to those mats.

They have a fantastic cargo liner that is almost identical to what Nissan sells. It also has 3" sides to keep water and snow from getting to the carpeting. Here is the link to that.

Congrats on the new ride. We must see pictures of the new baby.

Wow. Sunspot, that floor liner looks awesome. Talk about total protection! I wish it was easier/cheaper to ship this Weathertech stuff to Canada. By the time I pay shipping, exchange and (probably) duty charges, I'm way better off buying from my Nissan dealer.

Btw, I ordered the Murano floor mats ($115.00 CND) and the cargo liner ($139.00CND) from the dealer. Price is comparable and alot less hassle.

I'm looking at the Thule Frontier cargo box next. Supposed to hold 6 pair of skiis. Have to get some work done to pay for this stuff first :D.

Thanks!

Hi Stoker;
The OEM cross bars bolt into holes located on the inner-side of the side rails. There are three bolt holes up front and three bolt holes at the back on both rails. The only choice you have for mounting the OEM cross rail is 4" fowards or back on both front and rear cross bars.
The reason why ski and cargo boxes works on any vehicle is because the boxes themselves have actual tracking systems built into their own mounting system that allows for movement front to back.
You can check your side rails on the roof to see the holes I am talking about. They have a "grub-screw" installed into them to keep the holes from getting debris in them.
Cheers :)

Thanks for the note, my OEM cross bars have one bolt that tightens up a clip that compresses the crossbar to the side rails. The crossbar has a rubber slip on cover that serves to protect the crossbars and also to cover the hole I use to tighten up the bolt screw to attach the cross bar to the side rail.

The cross bars can be adjusted up and down the roof rails as required. My ski box has predetermined holes in it so that it can attach itself to the crossbars with a set of bolt on clips . The only issue I have with my ski box is that I have to mount it quite far foreword so that I can open up the rear hatch fully, it looks to some that my Mo is being terrorized by a UFO.

Hi Stoker;
I did not realize that Nissan made the type you are describing. When I went to the dealship; they quoted me $255.00 CDN for the kind that is found under this link: http://www.courtesyparts.com/Mercha...ode=999R1-CPZ50 .
I wish I new then that they had another kind....any chance you could post a pic of yours?
I know what you mean with the ski box being so far up front so that the rear hatch can open completely. I had to use some "head-light" tape(the clear repair kind) to neatly tape an oval patch where the box hits the top of the rear hatch so it doesn't scratch the paint.....unfortunately; my box is black so it doesn't look as cool like an UFO-just a big rocket launcher:eek:
