Driver's Power Seat Motor - Click HERE for Original Thread
I-285MURANO
Are there 2 motors that operate the forward and reverse function for the driver's seat? The reason I ask is because yesterday as I was getting out of my car and the seat was exiting, I noticed the seat was only moving on the left side, the right side did not move at all, as a result the seat went sideways. Anyone?

Oh yeah, 5 minutes later at the gas station I went to pump gas and the little peg that locks the gas door fell out onto the ground; how hard is that to replace?

There is a single motor that controls the fore and aft movement of the driver's seat. My guess is that the inboard drive gear and/or rack is stripped.

Thanks njjoe. Does that mean replacing the whole motor assembly?

I think you may have to replace the whole seat track assembly.

I suggest taking a look under the seat to see if you can see exactly what the problem is.

I had exactly the same failure--I think it's a nylon/plastic gear that stripped. Since I had an extended warranty I had the dealer repair it, which required a $400-plus part, which I think included pretty much everything that makes the seat move. Had I been paying myself, I'd have tried to find just the gear or a substitute at a local bearings/parts house. Typical today, we don't repair anything, we just replace "assemblies."

After this experience, I disabled the function that moves the seat back when you turn off the car and open the door. This is done through the menus on the instrument panel display screen. That function is an unnecessary frill in my opinion, except perhaps for people who sit right on top of the steering wheel.

First thing I would do is check to see if a coin, or something else, is blocking the track.

I have this quite often when coins fall out of my pocket in Woossh.

Be ashamed to spend all that money to find a blockage. And no refunds on electrical parts.

The motor for my seat is around $250. YEOW!

Thanks for the useful info guys, I will inspect to see if a coin has been lodged in the track, but I am thinking that if a coin is lodged in the track the seat would move in the direction that is not blocked by the coin?

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but I think it's the nylon gear that was already mentioned - I had this happen and the symptoms were identical.

And yes it needed the whole seat assembly replaced - motors and all. That was the only way we could get the parts. Cost about $900.

I attribute the failure to the "convenient" roll back of the seat feature - which I now don't use. When you see this little nylon gear, you will understand how it could hardly handle the stresses of back and forth all the time.

Oh Well! Luckily the seat is stuck in a position that I can live with for a while; I deactivated the exit for the seat and reprogrammed my memory seat so that it would not move when I hit the unlock on the remote.

I spoke to my Murano dealer (Hampton Motors - Fort Walton Beach, FL) about my driver's seat problem: left side moves forward and back; right side is frozen.

They said if there is a coin or debris lodged in there, the cost of repair will be the owner's liability ($200 plus or minus for seat removal and reinstall). If there is nothing found lodged but is a stripped or broken part, they (Nissan Motors) will cover the repair ($600 plus or minus). They claimed there is about a 50/50 rate of something lodged vs. a broken part. I cannot determine how a coin or other object would lodge in there along the right track. It certainly isn't very visible in there without removing the seat.

I am assuming this is for a MO under factory bumper to bumper warranty?

I, along with many others on this forum, have had this problem. Be there when they take it apart. It is likely the nylon gear that moves the right side of the seat has stripped. It is small and under engineered for the work that it has to do and LOTS of us have had this fixed. It requires the replacement of the entire seat assembly, motors and all (for all the functions, not just forward and bacK) and costs about a grand.

This problem is aggravated if you have the seat set up to move back when you turn off the ignition. Stop this feature everyone, it is a problem for the seat life!

The dealer replaced the whole enchilada...no charge; under warranty. And I didn't stand by to watch because I confirmed myself there was nothing "jammed" in the track.
