Who is better? On-line tire dealer or your local tire guys. Comments welcome.
Thanks

The on-line purchase price is almost always cheaper than your brick and mortar stores, however once you factor in shipping and handling it is sometimes a wash. No matter what, you will always need the local guys to mount and balance.

I bought my last set of tires from Tire Rack and got it installed at our local tire shop. The price was great and the installation went perfectly well. This was for my wifes Toyota Highlander which has 17inch wheels. This time it was actually cheaper to just get it at the local tire guys for the MO. Unbeatable price but they couldnt balance the 18 inch wheels properly despite trying several times. Finally the Discount Tire guys here locally got it balanced perfectly. I still came out good even with the balancing and mount done for the second time.
Thanks

Do not have experience with on-line dealers or ebay.
I always go with local shop. There is not much price difference. For me an important factor is that if there is a problem there is no doubt who's responsibility it is... |

| When I put tires on my Z (about 2 months ago) I saved a little over $200 buying offline and then getting mounted at the Nissan Dealer. Nissan only charged me $40 for the mount and balance of all 4 tires. |

| As cheap as they are, my new Kumho tires would have cost me $120 each if I had bought them locally. Then of course you add tax and other fees and it would have been around $130 a tire before install. From Tirerack, I paid $90 each shipped ($78+$12) and no tax or fees. So I saved about $160 over all. But I agree with Kris, the extra money you may pay to the local tire store can sure give you piece of mind if you have trouble with any of the tires. |
