any comments on this "special" ?

We are now offering you and your Nissan Murano a Green Maintenance Special!! Times have changed, and we want to help you change.

For our special we will:
• Give you a full synthetic oil change
• Rotate your tires
• Evacuate the air in your tires and rejuvenate your inflation with nitrogen
• Test the battery
• Inspect your brakes
• Perform a 27 Point Inspection
• Top off all fluids

All this for Only $99.95 plus tax!*

Here are the advantages:

Synthetic oil will extend your oil change interval to 5000 miles.

Synthetic oil can improve your fuel economy.

Nitrogen in your tires will extend the average life of your tires.

Nitrogen provides a consistent tire pressure which will save fuel.

According to the World Resources Institute, for every gallon of gasoline burned, you create almost 20 pounds of Carbon Dioxide.

I'd call BS on this. $100 for a frickin' oil change and tire rotation? No thanks.

The nitrogen thing has been discussed at length on this forum. Do a search if you haven't read that, it's pretty interesting with the various viewpoints, but the overall take-away from it is that while Nitrogen is marginally better, it's not worth paying extra to get (remember normal "air" has a lot of nitrogen in it). As for checking all fluids and whatnot, isn't that part of a regular oil change?

I change my oil myself, as well as rotate tires and check fluids. I can do everything on this list except the nitrogen for MUCH cheaper. Can't remember the cost of oil, but I get the 5-quart jugs of Mobil1 at Walmart for under $15 if I remember correctly... Plus the < $10 oil filter, worst case it costs me under $30.

So, if you think of it that way, you're paying an extra $70 for nitrogen and having someone else do the ~15 mins of work.

Not to mention that this kind of place rarely inspect your brakes without telling you that they need to be changed immediatly.

"Green Maintenance Special"?!? You have got to be kidding. As stupid as it sounds, you just know people will opt for it. They will spend $105 thinking they are helping the environment, when in fact they are only helping the dealer's bottom line. What a joke.

Fifty-thousand miles?!? No way!

There are two schools of thought on this one. Some people say it is best to wait until your first or second oil change before switching over to synthetic oil. While others, including Aston Martin, Bentley, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz AMG, Porsche, Corvette, Dodge Viper, just to name a few, use Mobile1 as factory-fill. So I guess if it is good enough for them it must be good enough for the MO.

Fifty-thousand miles is way too long to wait. I suggest switching over at the first oil change.

More like 5-10k miles before switching to synthetic - you need to give the rings some time to seat in with conventional oil. As for the idea that Mobil 1 comes as factory fill, those engines were designed for them from the start with rings and cylinder walls machined to a certain specification for synthetic oil. It might turn out that it doesn't make a difference (either initial synthetic switchover mileage, or even using synthetic) at all though. That said, I play the route better safe than sorry.

Are you sure? That's the first time I ever heard of that.

I would imagine that if Mobil One is the factory fill, those engines were built with synthetic oil performance characteristics in mind. I'm sure they would run on regular oil, though.

Some manufacturers use a break-in oil on new vehicles - Honda and Subaru, among others, have been rumored to do this for a while now, and is a huge topic of discussion on those forums.
