Ok I am looking @ buying a Used murano.
2003/04/05 and would like some info. I have lurked on here the last few days and weeks and now I think I want to ask some questions.
I will be buying a 40-60k mile murano is there anything I should look for mech. speaking that might throw up a red flag? Also I live in KS and we get snow rain ICE dirt roads I have a 4mo passat and kind of like the awd I didnt know how well the MO's worked. It adds about $2k to the price of used so I am putting that into question. I want all the bells etc. Where is the tire pressure monitor and how do you know if a vehicle has VDC?

Thanks

steelio-

Welcome to the forum.

This link will take you to a thread that shows the location of the VDC switch:

How to tell if a MO has VDC.

IMHO: You probably won't like the MO AWD as well as the Passat 4mo (audi quattro). Passat is really a much better system.
MO is a much better vehicle...

Hiii welcome to the forum :) okayyyy so if it really does get icey snowy and rainy often over there get the AWD. If it doesn't get bad often don't bother with the AWD. I had a few AWD problems with the transfer case, 3x the transfer case went byebye and the bill for that is $4000ish I believe(no not 400ish), or it was more I forget but it was over $3800. So be careful whether choosing between awd/not awd. My problem might be odd but yeah anyways. If it doesn't have a warranty definately get an extended warranty. I don't know if while you were doing your lurking if you possibly stumbled upon a few CVT threads....it's not the best thing ever or the strongest. It is pretty cool though but I already blew one and that bill was over $5000.00 they said(once again thank god for warrantys). With that being said extended warrantys a musttttt. Even if it's just powertrain. Hmmm but yeah good luck with it if you buy it :)

I have an 03 AWD and live in the NE.... if you live in an area where they plow the roads well then FWD will be fine. The transfer case on the MO AWD is a weak point. The difference between 03-05... not too much. By 05 they were able to get some gremilins our of the system but all in all I have been very happy with my 03. You may want to take the MO you are considering to a Nissan dealer to have them test the CVT fluid. This would be the only area I would have a concern. Have them test the fluid and see if its really clean (has been replaced once, or really dirty meaning it needs to be replaced and perhaps the pervious owner abused the CVT. The CVT fluid under normal conditions should last 75+K miles. Of course clean fluid could also mean they abused the CVT but where smart enough to have it changed before selling the MO. :p

Well see this is the problem with the AWD want and need. I would say I go on dirt roads pretty frequent. I would say that some here would say KS? You dont get as much snow and Ice as we do, but we dont get our roads cleared off as fast as you do.
Well this makes me a little more hesitant on getting the AWD...I was @ 1st anyways. I have noticed people with problems with the CVT as well which was another concern of mine.

The problem I am having is that I am going from an expensive car to fix to....well the murano. All in all though are these frequent / pretty much count on type of deals or a one in a 100 (0) (00)?

Overall, the CVT and AWD system have proven to be relatively trouble-free.

CVT failures, while few and far between, get quite a bit of attention here so it appears that they are more frequent.

I understand. I would be shouting as loud as I could too if I had bought a vehical and had the AWD go out $4000 and the tranny $5000 total of $9000 in just a few years. I would not be happy what so ever.

My VW has had a few problems, but I am not 100% sure that it was not the dealership more than the car.
