Hey Homer, good to see you back in the fold!
Like you, I will be considering my options soon when it's time to part with the Murano.
What's your short list of top 5 or 6 vehicles that you might consider?
I am thinking crossover SUV again, but I most likely won't go Nissan because of the lousy service.
Thanks and welcome back once again! |

So little time, so many choices........
I MAY go to a larger vehicle.
Why>
Because they are so nice. I HAVE looked at them.
The Saturn/GMC/Buick Lambda platform is just dynomite.
I will HAVE to look at the new Caddy SRX.
I have seen the new CTS up close and it makes all Nissans look crude and cheap. The interior is fabulous.
I Don't like the overall styling of the SRX tho. Looks like a big Station wagon. I know that's what these things really are, but..........
The Acura RDX interests me. I havenot checked it out inperson yet.
I'm not sure how I feel about Infiniti.
I may check out the new EX.
But I still hate Carlos Ghosin.
The Hyundai Veracruz is interesting tho I don't like the way it looks in photos. Have not seen it in person.
The Honda Pilot is always a competitor. But I don't like it looks and it gives away it's purpose in life by NOT having a console mounted shifter. Solid car tho.
Don't like the Highlander. For one thing I ride in a Highlander often and they must save a lot of money by not putting any cushioning in the rear seats.
I won't begetting serious for another year.

Homer,
you need to go back to Detroit.....I have this feeling.....you need to get as far from Japanese cars as you can....Nissan particularly...
I was planning on change in June next year. Unfortunately the odo started clicking much faster these days and I may be very close to 100k by the end on the year.
My list:
1. M35
2. G35/37
3. EX (a big unknown, but it may be it!).
I know I stay with Nissan, but Inifniti is a different animal. I like how they look, how they drive, the whole car somehow make me feel good....
Won't go domestic for one reason - I do not like how they drive. They are "Sunday driver's cars". I need something with a character...though I have to admit I always had an eye on CTS. Apparently the new one has fantastic handling. We will see. |

The bigger Acura ??MDX?? is very nice. Comparable in overall size to the MO, and with seating that is just as ample. It is nothing like the old one, where it was just a rebadged Pilot. The Pilot was a poorly laid out "larger" SUV that had less room in all three rows of seats and less luggage space than all of it's competitors, and most smaller SUV's/crossovers as well.
There seems to be an enormous difference between service at Nissan USA and Nissan Canada. Perhaps it's just the small town dealer we have had the pleasure of working with, but it seems to be more than that. Strange how two subs can be perceived so differently. |

So Kris, you may join me on the Infiniti G-35/37 board? Cool.

I agree. I have nothing but good to say about Haas Nissan in Yorkton, Sk. Must be the small town attitude. |

When it is time to place Mo out to pasture (it will be a sad day) here will be my contenders:
1) Mazda CX-7
2) Ford Edge (I feel dirty just typing that).
3) CR-V
4) POTENTIALLY Mo #2
I've got a hate on for Nissan service, so I'm leaning away from them unfortunately. However if Mo#2 puts me ass over teakettle, I'll consider again. |

Agreed! And it is rock solid at 130 mph!
One problem, or two: too small and reliability not there......:( |

The size is what it is. The Reliability for the "All new" 2008 is a bit unknown. However having owned 6 new Mercedes since 1995 a C320, E320, E turbo Diesel, 2000S430, 2 SLK 320 My only problem was that the AC in the S2000 was undersized for Arizona Day Parked cars, and a "Soft Cam Shaft" in one of the SLK's, plus some very minor junk a CD changer etc. Everything taken Graciously and quickly taken care of with a Nice New Mercedes Loner car and delivery to my home of the completed repair job.
I am compelled to say that the Mercedes compared favorably to the MO's. I Would say that considering the resale retention of value IF the size workes and it maynot it should be on a short list. It's not Huge inside about like an Altima ( JD Powers pick as the "Most Desirable Mid Size New Car for 2007 ) |

Unless you are referring to the M class Mercedes, looks like apples & oranges.... |

Have any of you guys actually driven the new C class?
And I am talking about the NEW C class. That JUST came out.
Or do you go on as usual using advertisements and Consumer Reports to describe them?
I will be going to the local dealer and at least looking at them soon. We have company this weekend.I will try for next week.
German cars drive better than any Japanese car I have ever driven. I will freely admit there are many japanese cars that I have never driven.
But even VWs drive better than Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas mainline sedans.
I have an interest in the Sport with the 350 engine.
Reading about the MB is like reading about women. It's usually better to actually go out and meet them.

I have seen the VeraCruz in person and I think it looks pretty good. I'm not sure I'm inline with the asking prices, but I think I will consider it on my own short list.
I saw a Saturn Vue and although it looked pretty, it seemed a bit cramped inside. |

I agree about the VUE.
Not my cup of tea.
The only Saturn I would consider would be the Outlook.
Same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.
Lots of room in that puppy.
Maybe too much actually.
It's bigger than the Murano.
That's the 2007 Murano.
With the Rogue out now, I expect the 2008 Murano to grow..........
Thanks for your impression of the Veracruz.
I haven't been to the Hyundai guys yet.
Hyundai will still have to get aggressive with their pricing if they expect to sell a ton of these.
Most people put Hyundai under Nissan in quality.....even if they are wrong.

Last time I drove MB C-class was 4 weeks or so ago. The car had 3,000 kms on the odo. I think it still was the 07 model. As I said – the car rocks at high speed! I love how it rides! Push it above 100 mph and you will see how car should handle and feel. If 08 is any better I can only imagine how it feels……but this car is not for interstates. It is built to go……140 mph :)
And yes, I did think about this car too. Just too small for me. I would need E-class and this one is just too pricey….
Homer,
I do agree with your statement about how German cars drive. Just recently going at 100 mph I was frequently passed by other German cars. They just know how to design and build cars for speed and handling. Still they do have reliability issues. MB was offering BIG discounts last year for taxi drivers as they started switching to other brands due to……..POOR RELIABILITY! |
