Anyone tried a Rav4 with a V6? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am starting to become interested in them.
269HP on a 500 pound less vehicle sounds nice.

I was amused by their forum.
Same gas type used threads.
Same "paint sux" threads.
Same tow threads.

Only thing I have found that raised an eyebrow was a whine in the Xmission between 40-50mph reported by more than half the poll takers.
A few had over 200k miles on them.

Of course, the other day while I was having my tires road forced/replaced for free (they are worse now), one of the techs told me that they just put the 5th set of tires on a Murano with over 200k on the clock--with nothing but oil and filters changed.

So, any thoughts?

To add to Homer's good list, I think in the large crossover category, the Mazda CX-9 is a competitive vehicle as well.

What does this have to do with a RAV4 with a V-6?!? :8:

Whoops wrong thread, I meant to post to the one where homer listed the vehicles he was thinking about after the MO. Oh well.

After CR lauded the RAV4 as the top in its class, the Boss Lady has been looking. We took an '07 V6 for a romp a couple of months back. Nice ride, not untoward noises, and its performance was impressive.

She has looked at the Jeep Compass (too much plastic), CR-V (alas, no V6), Pilot (too dang big!), rejected Nissans out of hand (deal with NNA? No freakin way! Although she kinda likes FXs), and gave up on the Hemi Charger dream. No way she could afford the tickets.

She has decided the replacement for the Cruiser will be a Barcelona Red RAV4 V6.

Of course, her fave rave remains the Hyundai Talus. Too bad it probably won't ever see the light of day...

I had one as a rental for a few days.

I was impressed. It was a quick little bus.

Smaller than the MO, but I guess it seats 5.

I would buy one.

As much as I like the MO, I have become less than enchanted with the service that I have received in two states no less, PA and NC. Based on the cost for mileage checkups, etc. that generally average around $400 to $500, I may try to find a cheaper alternative at some point.

I like the looks of the RAV4, and I especially like the possibility of a 269hp vehicle. Unknowns are reliability, servicing and cost of ownership for a Toyota.

Seating is much tighter in the RAV4, particularly in the front. It does drive nicely in terms of forward motion, but it seems to have far more body roll and feels choppier over expansion joints than my 'firmly sprung' SE MO. It has lots more low end pickup, probably more attributable to a direct link between the engine and wheels than to the extra few HP over the MO, but the MO has the advantage at speed, particularly with passing on a two lane/non-divided highway situation.

Given Toyota's stellar rep for reliability, and the (at least in Canada) much lower price, it is a worthy alternative--a bit smaller, a few less features, but a capable crossover.

I test drove one a couple of hours ago...wish I would have taken it out on the freeway. It burned rubber on a downshift at 30mph, quite impressive.

Oh, I rode over to the Rav in a 08 highlander---Niiiiice, and the same price as the Rav. Waaaay more room in the highlander. Waaaay nicer interior, it was a limited and very very nice interior.

I love my Mo, for everything that makes it uniquely Mo. The lease is up in Feb and choosing another is driving me nuts.

I stopped by the same dealer who sold it to me and inquired about putting me in another--they are forgiving the deposit if I lease another from them. They will even eat what's left of the lease on my current one.

I am so torn.

The new altima's were WOW......

hmmmmm...... decisions decisions.....

I'm in a new SL.

:D

They sold my 04 in less than 24 hours, I bet the new owner will appreciate how I took care of her.

I just could not find what I wanted in comfort and price folks, so I had to go back to Mo, and my lease is way less expensive.

:D

WOW! Congratulations!

Isn't it interesting that after driving so many cars many of us come back to Murano despite all the complains we have...;)

I still dread a dealer fixit visit..... but I think that is a lot less of a worry than I would have with what I was looking at.
The biggest thing that made me go back to Mo was this: downshifting when you need some extra pulling power NOW! Normal automatic xmissions tend to skip two gears down and scream the motor. I always hated that on V6's--it makes them wind a bit to high.
I know of several folks who had set their cruise on 80 mph and when they went up a steep incline the dreaded double gear downshift occurred and made the engine throw a rod. I had a small V8 in a montecarlo (267) that did the same double gear downshift and spun a rod bearing. I nearly killed two minivans the same way.

No can do that on a Murano, they are Marty proof! :2:

You just need to find a different place to have your MO serviced... something like any non-stealership will do. :4:

Ur really gonna love this:
I opened my hood yesterday to see if anything had changed.
There on the air filter cover was a HUGE red STOP sticker that said:
This vehicle uses sophisticated computer systems and should only be serviced by the dealership at XXXXXXX Nissan.
I LMAO!
Then I peeled it off.

I did the entire detailed evaluation at the Montreal Auto Show in January. I had to. My '04 was just stolen 3 weeks earlier but I had a leased Toyota 4Runner for 2 months so I was not in a real hurry.

I checked them all, Ford, Edge, CX-9, Outlook, ........

Too big, not enough punch, too pricey, unsuited options in packages, etc... I had a few complaints with the MO myself but overall, it was then and still is the vehicle that I would pick again tomorrow.

I own a '07 since February and the only thing that I dislike is the suspension. I still can't figure out how Nissan could design something so unforgiving over bumps and holes and yet so weak in curves. They took the worse of all worlds to design this one.

Interesting as the FX is rock solid around the corners and yet more forgiving than the Murano on bumps......so Nissan CAN do it. They just elected not to.

I test drove M35 and this things feels soft comparing to Murano. But take it around a corner or try to do lane change at 80mph and you will see how suspension should work! Ah Nissan, get this thing right on the Murano and you will have a winner! Oh, and drop the CVT repair prices to say $2.5k and you may win me back..;)
