I need new tires for my '05 MO.
I just got off the phone with the Tire Rack and they said they have reports from MO owners that any size other than the stock and 255/60 18's rub.
Is there any truth to this?
Based on what I read here 265/60's seem to work just fine.
My Murano spends most of its time in the north country so I need a tire better than the Eagles in snow.
Thanks for any help...

Jet2-
Welcome to the forum!
Tire Rack is giving you incorrect information. If you take a look at some of the posts in the "Tires & Wheels" section you will see many members opting for oversized tires with no reports of rubbing. Of course, if you take it to the extreme you will have problems.
265/60-18 will be just fine.

Based on what I've read it sure seems fine.
I'm leaning towards the Yoko Geolander, it appears most people who have them are happy.
The only issue I see is the SUV vs Car tire debate and will the SUV tire be a lot more noisy and rough...
Thanks for the quick response.

Just a FYI........narrow tires are better in snow.

Thanks, thats good to know.
What did you think about the Eagles?
Scary in the snow and I've hated them from day one myself.

I had the Geolanders installed yesterday. I do like the way they look on the MO. I'm heading to VT next week, it should be about a 500 mile trip. I'll post an update after that.
Thanks for the help...

Jet - I've put 20k miles on my Yoko's & gone through 2 winters & I really like them all around.
Yoko's > GY's in the snow. :) |

I'm a little more than 1/2 way through my trip (about 375 miles) and I really like how they ride.
From what I can remember, the YOKO's may be a tiny bit louder than the eagles when they were new. Additionally, I feel the cornering feels a bit better. I'm guessing the sidewalls are stiffer.
However, I've lost around 4 mpg on the highway. That's a high percentage, I guess it's the additional friction of the YOKO's and the different overall size of the tire.
Here's the part I don't understand, my city or back road driving mpg appears to have remained the same as with the Eagles.
I'm sure there's an explaination for this but I don't really get it.
I still like the YOKO's but I hate giving up that mileage.
This info is all based on what the MO is reporting but it's how I kept track of it before.

I have 265/60/18 Yoko Geolandars and they do not rub at all. Also, they are way better in the snow than the stock Goodyears.
You might try raising the tire pressure on the Yokos - I lost 2-3mpg with mine as well. Also keep in mind that the slightly taller 265/60/18 size underestimates your mileage, so you are actually getting a little bit better than your odometer claims. |

Jet-
The drop in MPG is not as bad as it seems.
The computer is measuring tire revolutions, not actual distance traveled. The 265/60 Geolanders have a diameter that is 0.5" larger than the OEM Goodyears. Your MO is traveling 1.6% farther per tire revolution on the Geos as compared to the Goodyears.

That's true but why would the city driving seem to have remained the same?
I think I'm running 35 lbs in the tires, what tire pressure do you suggest for the YOKO's?
Thanks for the response...

That seems high enough, I run 38F/36R. The only other thing I can think of for the highway is that aerodynamics play a much larger role at high speeds than city speeds - maybe these Yokos really are that wide that they affect wind resistance that much. They do stick out a little bit from the wheel wells (well at least mine do). |
