Did not know that, will have to try it out when I leave work since now I'm curious.

I tried it last night and my roof launched off my Mo about 20' in front of me

In seriousness, now the roof opens all the way to the crossbar separator, so exactly half the roof opens now as opposed to 1/3. Sweet!

Mine has always opened this far automatically since day one. No need to hit the button twice.

Here is a video I took of the operation of my 2015 Murano Platinum Sunroof operation.

https://youtu.be/c96sZShYw68

This is exactly how it has operated since I bought it. Hitting the open button again does nothing...and it shouldn't because it's already all the way back even with the fixed glass portion. Any further back it would be behind the fixed glass...which serves no purpose obviously.

So I'm wondering why other Muranos don't open the sunroof all way automatically?

Thanks for the video!

Mine definitely does not open as far as yours does unless hit the button a second time to finish the operation.

I'm thinking that it might have to do with how long you push the button for. Quick push = halfway open, long push = all the way open.

Take care!

Have 15 SL and mine also has two positions for opening. My wife's previous car which was a Jetta also had that feature. The purpose of it not opening all the way is that at highway speeds it prevents excessive wind noise and blowing overall. Street driving, opening it all the way won't affect cab noise.

Apparently there's 2 types of moonroofs according to the owner's manual (page 2-48 in the Canadian version):

Sliding the moonroof (Type A - if so equipped)
To fully open or close the moonroof, push the switch to the open 1 or close 2 position and release it; it need not be held. The roof will automatically open or close all the way. To stop the roof, push the switch once more while it is opening or closing.

Sliding the moonroof (Type B - if so equipped)
To open the moonroof, push the switch to the open 1 position and release it; it need not be held. The roof will automatically open and stop slightly before the fully open position to reduce wind noise. Press the switch again to fully open the moonroof. To close the moonroof, push the switch to the 2 position and release it. The roof will automatically close all the way.

To save people the trouble I posted the page below. I wonder why they made a type a and type b, not even sure which type I have, I think type A , I've never noticed how far it actually goes back .
