Thanks for sharing your reviews here again, Assad and Greg.

I've read through the thread already, quite thoroughly, but sometimes there will be opinions that are shared prematurely that may have changed, or significant differences that only become apparent and considerable once a few units have been sampled.

Its nice to have a consolidated summary of experiences in one page, or at least within a few posts.

I think that this will help a lot of people moving forward. Thanks again for sharing your advice and thoughts.

Sorry for double post...

In my case, I'll be deciding between the Ownice and the Dasaita. I'd appreciate some further help in the decision pls....

Here's what matters to me:

1. Fluid, smooth OS: if it looks nice that's great, but if the experience is slow and lagging, or distracting, then there's no point to it at all

2. Screen: I have always been a sucker for a nice screen. I like a bright, vibrant screen. But, for example, I enjoy my smooth stock Pixel 2 XL vs an old Galaxy S5, even though the S5 had a brighter and more vibrant screen

3. Preserved functionality of SWC, rear camera, bluetooth (without high pitched noises lol)

4. I don't listen to much music. Mostly lectures and podcasts. So the sound 'quality' and customization don't matter as much to me.

5. Google maps!!! I need a great navigation unit. The stock maps are so primitive.

I know you have outlined your thoughts earlier, but I'd rather not have to experiment between units and your advice is valuable

thanks fellas

Then, I would go with the ownice.
Check out Tiberius Gavier review of the c500+, he did a good job showing how smooth it is.
Software does not really matter in this case, I am pretty sure most apps you will be running in the car work great with android 6.

Thanks Assad, and TG for the video

On the ownice, were you able to change the wallpaper, or use live wallpapers, or widgets?

I really like the weather widgets and live wallpapers would be nice, especially since you don't need to worry about battery.

thanks!

Any Android headunit is just normal Android device so you may do anything you want with it
Default C500+ launcher support just static wallpaper and widgets support is implemented in a bit strange way.
But you could always replace default launcher with any alternative (there are lot of them) and customize it as you like better.
While I suggest to play a bit with default device settings first - you still may try something like Nova launcher (works unstable on C500+) or other dashboard-styled launchers like Web Car Guru or Agama car launcher (my choice)

WabbaJ, for a bright vibrant screen you might like the Ownice over the Dasaita because of the brightness issue that assad and I mentioned about it being somewhat dimmer at full brightness than we'd like. I'm ok with the Dasaita for now as everything is working for me.

It is nice to be able to enable active widgets and live wallpapers and other apps that normally would suck up battery juice but not a problem in this case!

Good luck!

hey AE. That's great news. Thanks for answering that for me. I am looking forward to tinkering around a little with an Android OS. The Nissan OS isn't entirely bad, but its nothing that gets anyone excited.

Thanks for your reply Greg. This is the issue I have: I do love a bright screen, but I also don't want to be potentially giving up a vastly better OS (Android 8 vs 6).

I'm going to go with the Ownice. If I feel the software isn't good enough for me, I'll switch over to the Dasaita.

Here's what Ownice told me when I sent them the info about my device (shared earlier):

Just by the picture, which looks is ok.
But to be honest, we also cannot promise 100%, as you know, different country, the same car maybe is a little difference, and our item according to chinese market .

If you can provide the technician below information, then technician can know whether our connector fits for your car.

1, Your original car radio back connector picture. (example picture 1)

2, Your original car radio wiring diagram picture. (example picture 2)

I'll search this thread for a picture of the back of the radio, rather than having to pull mine. Unless I have to pull mine.
Do you guys know where exactly I can find the schematic they are referring to? (pg 5 & 9 of this thread?)

thanks!

Don't even bother....

I tried it, but once the car start moving, you loose the signal strength and the picture is not even watchable.

Awesome. Thanks dude. I suspected those so I put it in my memo. Didn't want to seem like I'm being lazy and asking you guys to do all my homework

I'll send this to ownice and make sure they get it right

Thanks. I work and sit in the car waiting for sporting events alot so I'm in the car. A usb with movies loaded would work with driving right for the family? Im still undecided

I have a 128GB microSD card connected via one of the USB ports coming out of my Ownice head unit - works very well for what you're describing. I've got hours and hours of downloaded music videos, movies, youtube videos, etc. I generally just listen to music when I'm driving and have the music video playing on the head unit (passengers are always very amazed at this lol). But if I'm sitting in my car and waiting, I'll throw on a movie or a downloaded youtube video.

Man, none of the Ownice sellers are communicating well over AliExpress. I'm afraid that they will send me the wrong cables.

Which stores did you guys have luck with? I've tried the first few sellers.

Hi Gents,

I have a 2016 Murano (over in Bogota Colombia) with the Bose sound system and was considering installing the new Sony head unit XAV-AX210 with the iDatalink Maestro . Not sure this is the right thread to ask in, but would anyone be able to comment as to whether I should be able to get this to work with the car and whether the 360 camera would still work?

Thanks,

Richard

Sorry, I am not familiar with that unit at all, also never heard of iDatalink Maestro, but it is a pretty nice unit.
