Thumbs down Iphone/NissanConnect/Sending Texts via system

I just sent an email to Nissan Owners Service:
"Hi there. Just bought a 2016 Nissan Murano Platinum with the navigation in it. i am unable to get the Nissan Connect to work except for the Google Search. I downloaded the app on my phone but I guess it is pretty much useless. I have been reading up on this issue and it sounds like it is a pretty big issue. Any plan to get this issue corrected soon??? You guys advertise about how connected this system it is but it sounds anything but that. I would consider that false advertising. I also can’t send text through the system either. Thats a big deal for me. I just spent $40,000 on a car so I have certain expectations about the technology which includes Bluetooth. I love this car…thats why I bought it but these issues are a big deal too!!"

This was their reply:
"Dear Lori,

Thank you for contacting Nissan Owner Services. We appreciate hearing from you.

Congratulations on your new Murano! The navigation unit on 2016 Murano offers the most advanced user interface of all Nissan vehicles with pinch and zoom and swipe functionalities, as well as exclusive access to SiriusXM Sports through SiriusXM Travel Link. Currently NissanConnect Mobile Apps only offers Online Search with Google for this vehicle. Nissan is dedicated to the best experience for its owners and the highest levels of customer satisfaction, and at this time this is the only app that has been validated and approved as meeting our high internal quality standards for this specific hardware unit. If you have any other questions or concerns, we would be more than happy to help. You may contact us by phone at 855-426-6628. We are available to assist you Monday through Saturday, from 8am until 12am EST.

Thank you for your cooperation. Have a great day!"

Not the answer I was wanting...........

It's the similar answer other people have received. The entertainment system of the Murano is very deceiving and a huge let down from Nissan. I wish had known beforehand since I would have made a different choice, then again I am leasing so I will get out of this brand into another one much easier than someone who actually purchased the vehicle.

Suggestion. Forget phone calls/emails to customer support. Nissan's North America HQ is One Nissan Way, Franklin, TN 37067 . Phone is 615-725-1000. I suggest we all send a letter to them addressed to the President of Nissan North America, explaining the situation and the frustration. The more letters they receive the better. Since this also affects the 2015 Murano I just bought I'm willing to write them a letter. Nissan is a big company and chances are the top execs may not be aware of the problem and how frustrating it is. It's worth a shot as they might light a fire underneath those responsible for correcting the problem, and hey all it will cost is a first class stamp..

Sounds like a plan!

I would be willing to do that. This is a big deal for me.

Here's the letter I will be sending.

Dear Sir,
I recently bought a certified pre-owned 2015 Nissan Murano SL. While I am very happy with the vehicle, there is one area I think you should make a priority to improve. Currently Nissan Connect in the 3rd gen Murano only supports Google Search. I, along with other 3rd gen Murano owners are very disappointed that Nissan Connect has not implemented support for its other features. Calls/emails to North America Nissan support have only resulted in an apology, but no further information on if/when these other features will be available. Could you please make expanding Nissan Connect features in the Murano a priority, and make sure any updates can be made available to current 3rd gen Murano owners.
Thank You

I plan on putting my name, address, phone number and VIN after the Thank You

Wow, so it wasn't me after all. I was like doing everything I could to figure out why I couldn't get any other apps beside the Google search to work in the car, and I must have tried 10 different things to get the text messages to work until I found out in another forum post that this wasn't going to work either.
I just bought a 2016 Murano and I am definitely not happy with the lack of these features.

Chrome Door Edge Guard - Tinted Windows
Nitrogen In Tires - Splash Guards

Hi Lori,

Based on my own experience with Nissan dealership and Nissan North America after purchasing my 2015 Murano, I have arrived at the following conclusion: " When going to Walmart, do not expect Nordstrom's service and customer centric mentality"

I will write a letter to the President of Nissan North America but I doubt based on what I have observed, it will make any difference.

I called and demanded that the person escalate the issue and get it fixed. He tried to say congratulations and all that crap, but I told him I didn't want to hear it and get the car fixed. I lectured him about being a new owner and being lied to by the dealers. Whatever. All car companies are a joke now. They don't care at all. I'm going through much worse with Ford right now over a '15 Mustang GT.

Car companies don't care if you're happy or if you ever buy their cars again. The business model is to dupe morons into buying and it really doesn't go beyond that.

I figured it out after over a year owning the Murano. I even sold my iPhone 6S 128GB because I couldn't use the Text Messages feature on the Infotainment.

Anyways I bought the iPhone SE and started playing around the settings like iMessage, Cellular Network, etc.

Then I thought of the Bluetooth...

After you CONNECT/PAIR it go to Bluetooth and select YOUR DEVICE. Notice the SHOW NOTIFICATIONS is off? TURN IT ON!!! Done. Text Messages now works.

Only Apple can make something so simple and so complicated. LOL

I completely forgot about that and just resolved that on the wife's Murano. Thanks for the reminder. Too bad we still can't send texts though.

I also just emailed Nissan again, except this time I copied my dealership's GM. I called them both liars right before we get the survey where the dealer shamelessly begs for a perfect score.

I've done what I can. I may send a letter to the President of Nissan NA also if I get time at work.

I have the Galaxy Note 4 running Marshmallow. After pairing it with the NissanConnect Bluetooth, the phone was asking me if I am willing to give permission to NissanConnect to receive messages, call log, contact info, etc. I said yes. Since then, I can see text messages in the display and if I get emails on the phone, an envelope symbol on the main screen tells me how many.

It appears Android is more straight forward than IOS

iOS can do everything except reply to texts using the car's interface.

Rob,

1. Within the context of how to enable the phone’s text messages to be displayed on NissanConnect, Android appears to be friendlier than IOS. That was the intent of my post. No further claim of superiority of Android vs. IOS is neither intended nor implied!

2. I am sure you are aware that what transpires between two paired and connected Bluetooth (BT) devices is governed by the BT Profiles that the devices adhere to:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...tooth_profiles

3. Within the context of the current NissanConnect, the ability of responding to a text from the car’s main display, although it is part of the BT profile, has not been implemented irrespective of the phone’s OS!
