Getting a bad feeling about this Front Radar/ICC issue.

I live in NC. No slow, no slush, and I've only driven the car (just turned 3 months old) in the rain on a handful of occasions. Actually never had any problems during the rain.

But then about 10 days ago I started getting the "Unavailable Front Radar Obstruction" message. Just street driving and the error always occurred when making a left turn. After seeing the posts on this forum, I thought there might be some debris on the front sensor. So yesterday I had the car washed and also did a check myself with a damp paper towel (just to make sure).

Today when driving on the highway, the message kicked in again (BTW, sunny and dry all around) and shut down the ICC. This problem has been described in the forum, but I add my experience as I do not believe the weather has played any part in the problem. I saw another thread which indicated that it might be a calibration issue. I hope that's all it is. I'll be taking the car in for service and will post again when I know more.

Gotta be a malfunction. Take it to the dealer.

I have a 18 SL Midnight Edition and it gave the same "Forward Collision Warning Failure" the other day. I only have 3200 miles on the vehicle and is only driven a few miles a week due to office in the home. When the warning happened I was driving around 74mph, sunny day and around 84deg. I panicked for the Cruise shut off and the dash warning lights activated. I drove the vehicle home and let it set a few hours, afterwards I cranked it and the warning was still there. I inspected the sensor in the front, lower grill and everything looked clear. I let the Mo sit overnight, cranked it the next morning and the warning vanished and all is normal. This whole "Forward Collision Failure"scenario has taken place twice. I took pics and plan to visit the dealership for inspection. Weird.....

UPDATE:::

The dealership suppose to have fixed the Forward Collision Warning failure back in May. A few weeks ago, the malfunction "Unavailable Front Radar Obstruction" started popping up again and is much worse. I cannot drive the vehicle at all without the malfunction. I have placed a call to the dealership once again. I will know more Thursday, once they get a chance to pull the codes, blah blah blah........ So frustrating.

If it happens after a certain mileage every time you drive it, the whole system needs to be replaced. Mine started doing it 7 miles after start up religiously EVERY SINGLE TIME I drove it. Dealer recalibrated and reset a bunch of times and ended up replacing the radar module because it wouldn't stop doing it. Then I returned it via lemon law because it was never the same after that. A lot of false positives, etc.

Iím sure it is. Just step back and remember itís a car. End of the tunnel is whether you can sell it when the time comes. Other than that you just have to try to let the dealer do the work.

Iíve had to ditch a few relatively new cars for horrible defects that couldnít be fixed. Sucks. Ď16 F150 with a 5.0 that had a loose wrist pin that sounded like it was grenading. Ď09 Accord coupe V6, defects everywhere and horrible mechanical problems. Ď14 Civic Si with either a bad limited slip diff or axle problem.

Dealers completely screwed me on all three. I had to trade them off. And at the end of the day thatís all that matters. Gone.

Dealer/warranty problem, so take it in again and again if needed. Establish a paper trail to prove it happened while in warranty.

That's about the only approach you can take.

UPDATE#2::

The dealership did the inspection and viewed my photos/documentation, which shows the frequency of the malfunction. Dealer contacted Nissan Motor Company and was told to replace the whole radar unit and wiring. The kicker is,,the parts and unit are all on back order and no date as to when available. "Don't call us, we will call you." ( which I understand that is all they can do at this point) The Service MGR said he has seen a few of these issues and seems to be a growing concern for Nissan. Regardless, I will wait for the dealership to call, preform the replacement and hope for the best. Yay!!

This is a solid outcome! Not that unusual to have to wait a bit for parts; this is a non-critical assembly and you'll be fine in the interim.

Hope this fixes it for you.

Thank you. Yeah, I am sure it will be fine. I know the dealership's hands are tied and doing the best they can. They have been super nice and supportive and really seem concerned about making things right. The only reason I have posted my situation is hoping it might help someone else who might might be experiencing the same thing and might have questions. I love my 18 Murano SL Midnight Ed.

[My previous reply didn't seem to make it, so trying again]

Update to my 5-26 post: Earlier this week they replaced my front sensor and bracket. It took 4 weeks to get the parts. I found a service bulletin online from 2016 that notes this issue, so Nissan has had 2 MY to get it resolved. Oh well. But kudos to the dealer/service dept. They stayed on top of things and got me an appointment once they knew the part was shipped.

I have the exact same model and the exact same problem. My car was purchased in March and started having this same problem a few weeks ago. Took it to the dealership today and was told the same thing about back ordering and they will call when it comes in.

I have the same issue with my pre-owned 2018 Murano SV & dealer says the sensors need to be aligned & I have to pay $350 for the service as the alignment warranty only applies to 1 year or 12,000 miles & my car has 13,000 on it currently.

I am not buying that explanation & checking with Nissan on this.

Do you guys have any idea if sensor alignment has a different term of warranty as suggested by the dealer?

Thanks,

Bought new with 6 miles. After driving less than 1000 miles, I've had the same issue 6 times. Always on clear, sunny days on the highway at 77mph. Will usually re-start after about 10 minutes. The dealer told me the same as above...'back ordered'. From reading these postings, back ordered means several weeks.

I don't think I would accept that either. Where did you buy it from. I would think that would fall under the 3/36K.
