How to install Ghost light LED on your Nissan Murano

Name: Ghost light LED / Puddle light
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time: Around 2 hr/ door
Parts:

So this weekend I decided to install some ghost light LED projector, they also call them Puddle light, Shadow light.

They are basically a light projector that is installed below your door trim and project a nice logo on the ground below. They are usually found on higher end car such as BWM. Unfortunately Nissan doe not offer them, but you can make your own and it will look OEM.

Installation is pretty easy to moderate, you basically drill a small hole below your door trim, the light is small enough and it is mounted out of sight. When you open your door a small projected logo is shined on the ground.

To install these, you will have to remove the door trim and the speaker.
You need constant power and a wire that is grounded when you open/unlock the door.

Since our murano does not have a light that turns on when you open the door located on the door itself, we have to find some other way to trigger the light to come on when you open the door. I tapped into the door lock switch wire located on the power lock actuator, that signal is grounded when the door is unclocked. This wire tells the computer whether your door is locked or not.

I put the instructions on the pictures:

Very, very cool! Really wish I could do this, but I'm fairly certain it would end in me screwing up the door/speakers/electrical/etc.

Looks amazing, though, always admired the puddle lights on all the fancy cars out there!

This is awesome. I've been wanting to get this done for a year. Damn I wish you lived near me. I will give this guide to my friend and see what he can do.

So the lights stay on when the door is unlocked? I've been wanting to add under body lights that come on with the interior lights but hooking them up this way might work as well.

Correct!
I am using the unlock/lock state to turn on/off the LEDs.

When you unlock the door the LED comes on, then when you start driving past 15mph, the doors will lock automatically and the LED will be off.

Ideally, I would want to use the door open/close signal as a trigger, but that signal is not present within the door.

In your case, if you want to use the interior light as a trigger, then you can tap directly into the TL-LMP or RM LMP wire which is present on the NISSAN Accessory Service Connector (999Q9-AY001), that would be easier.

Assad,

Where did you tap into for the unlock/lock? Were you able to just use a 12V relay without any issues? Thanks for any help

Hi Paul,

There is a wire loom that goes from the door lock actuator to the rubber boot inside the door (see picture), I cut through that wire loom and exposed the wiring, it is the GREY wire that I tap into. That wire is grounded when the door is unlocked and is left floating when you lock the door.

For +12V, I just used the yellow wire that goes into the 3 PIN connector that connects to the window UP/DOWN module, that is a constant 12V.

I did not use a relay since that LED draws very little current, so far I have not had any issues.

I only did the driver's side door, will try to do the passenger side this weekend.

Ok,
I got some bad news for the passenger side, the wire that I used to trigger the LED to come on is only located on the driver's side door. I could not find anyway to trigger the LED to come on when the door is open on the passenger side.

So, if you want to put it on the passenger side, you will have to fish the door open/close wire located on the ASC connector through the rubber boot that connects to the door, the challenge is there is a molex connector there, so it won't be easy.

For the rear door, you will also have to fish the door open/close signal on the rubber boot, but that should be easy since there is no molex connector on the rear doors.

So today, I finished all 4 doors, I also added some ambient light under the armrest and where nissan install the OEM ambient light. I was surprised to see that there was already a placeholder for LEDs light there, so it made it much easier.

Again, if you are doing this on the driver's side, it should be easy, since you can just tap into the door unlock signal.

But if you are planning on putting these on the passenger side and the rear doors, you will have to fish the door OPEN/CLOSE signal through the rubber boot that goes inside the door and use that as a trigger.
