Engine bonnet sun glare

If you are my height and the sun is in the right direction the glare of the trailing edge of the engine bonnet is blinding. It is unsafe!
Is there a cheap good looking fix?

I had the same issue and it was so irritating. So I started only driving at night. It was literally like day and night difference. No more glare.

You could also try a product called PlastiDip. They have a clear matte finish. You can tape off around the edges and seam and spray it on. It may help with the glare.

Cheap? yes
Good looking? Probably not
Using a tape or film on that lip of the hood would effectively eliminate or reduce the glare, but would not be aesthetically pleasing to most.
A more radical and permananet solution would be to tape off the area and spray paint with non reflective opaque clear coat. This would retain the original color to some extent and be more durable.
I am sure that there are some who have plasti-dipped the offending area as well.
Please post pics of any solutions you try.

That's what I was getting at. Tape off the edges and seams. Spray on the clear matte PlastiDip then remove the tape. The tape is there to create a sharp and straight line so you dont overspray onto the hood. I usually leave out the "remove tape after" step in instructions as I think its something everyone would know to do.

Has anyone come up with a good looking solution?

How about adding window tint on the windshield.

rolrandy 12-12-2018 01:40 PM

I've thought about a strip of tint along the bottom not sure how it would look

Tinting the whole windshield would like nice. I've seen it on many cars.

In Texas you can't (by law)tint below the marks about four inches down from the top on each side. Personally, I never noticed the glare until one day I forgot my polarized sun glasses, then I knew what you were talking about.

I used “Plasti Dip Flat/Matte Clear 11 oz Multi-Purpose Rubber Coating #11209-6”. It was easy to use and inexpensive.

Looks pretty good!
Did you just mask it off and spray? Any surface prep?

just have the area clean and dry, mask off what you don't want sprayed, over spray is the biggest concern, for best results when using Plasti Dip is thin coats, and let each coat dry, don't put on a single thick coat.

Best part, is if you don't like it, it just peels off......

I masked along the ridge line and sprayed 5 thin coats half hour apart. When it was set I removed the masking and found that there was a ridge between the Plasti Dip and the car paint. Masked again putting the masking tape about a 1/32 inch forward of the Plasti Dip and sprayed once more along the 1/32 gap, that eliminated the ridge line.

So, ab16, does the addition of the plasti-dip make any difference with the glare? Please report back after you have driven with it a while.

thanks!
