2016 Murano missing AWD-lock botton

Hi all,

I have recently bought a 2016 Murano, I don't see any button for awd lock, although it's been mentioned in the rear and in the VIN of the car. Is it like all automatic system?

Thanks!!

I do not believe any Gen 3 Murano has AWD lock.

unfortunately the Murano doesn't have full time AWD. It is on from 0-15 MPH then switches to front wheel drive after that. This is not a offroad vehicle!

Exactly!

You don't need a lock button. It's not a Jeep and not for off-roading.

I thought the AWD was intuitive so that, if needed on snow covered roads for example, it would switch to AWD at any speed. AWD isnt only working up to 15 mph, is it?

The early models lock button engaged only under 15 MPH. After that speed it released. AWD engages as needed, at any speed as far as I know.

The transfer case, at least in early models, was very weak and sometimes a failure point. IMO the lock button caused more stress to the transfer case than it was designed for.

I am not understanding this...
Then what is the purpose of AWD if it only engages below 15mph?
Also considering that an AWD adds $2000 to the price tag

Or am I missing something?

Mainly to help you start from a stop in snow or up a hill when slipping. It will adjust power from wheel to wheel but it's not something you would rely on cornering at high speed. It's not meant for rock climbing or mountain side rally. The murano is a road vehicle. Nissan knows this car will be driven on roads and wont be put through any extreme tasks such as off roading or hauling yachts. So nothing special is needed

I don't believe this is accurate. The AWD senses front wheel slip and kicks in as needed.

The CVTz50 app will show you the AWD front/rear distribution. For both my 2003 and 2019 Murano, it shows AWD is quite dynamic at all speeds (at least up to 40-45 MPH that I have viewed it.)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...vtz50&hl=en_US

Also, this 2019 information mentions AWD comes into play during corners as well (which I found surprising considering the lack of center differential...)

I've been using CVTz50 since just about when it first came out. The author has steadily added and improved it, well worth the $4.99. It's been greatly expanded since it first came out, with CVT live monitoring. If you're serious about your Murano, then this is the one program to have in your diagnostic tool kit.

I've seen talk on his web site about accessing Consult only programming, like windows down with fob, door lock from Park (pre 2019) that you have to bug the dealer to change.

Have a good day.

While on the CVTz50 topic. Has anyone tried the cvt/engine braking adjustment? I would mainly be interested in turning that option completely off. I just want to know if anyone has tried it without negative consequences?

According to CVTz50's docs, you can safely turn it off, but changing it to anything else is not recommended by Nissan.

I thought of turning if off, but I regularly go down several long fairly steep roads. I love just tapping the brakes at 35 Mph and still doing under 40 Mph when I reach the bottom. Love watching all the other cars in front riding their brakes all the way down, and confusing the crap out of those in back, not seeing my brake lights come on at all.

Have a good day.
