USB connect problem

Just got this 2015 platinum. Decided to try the usb to play music. When I touch USB1 on the display.... I get a "reading USB memory" message, when there is NO USB device in the slot. When insert one... same message and it never does anything else. When I try the USB2 connection in the back. I get a "no USB device connected"... regardless if there IS a device inserted or not. So... I'm at an impass here. What am I missing?

ps. tried 2 different USB drives. One 32GB one 64gb. both read in the desktop just fine.
thanks

Are the drives formatted right? Windows 10 and 7 default to NTFS when formatting drives, including memory sticks. Not sure how they are formatted by default out of the package. Nissan requires FAT32 (or 16) formatting.

No answer on the latter. Both my USB's report "no USB device connected."

Try formatting the jump drive on the desktop to FAT32, then add a song or two, see what happens?

ok..but

I'll try that BUT.. why would the screen say "reading USB memory" when there's NO USB drive in the slot?
that makes NO sense.

I have the same make/model suv. You have to format using Fat32 to play music. On my car I had to have the front usb replaced because the previous owner smashed the medal pins down.

yep..that worked

Yep.. format to Fat32 and its recognized. Now.. can we get on Nissan putting it in an absolutely TERRIBLE location.
Its stupid difficult to get the drive into the slot. I can't imagine someone with larger hands being able to manage it.
Doesn't anyone in design THINK of this stuff?

Designers have small hands and free ipod nano's? Agreed, it's dumb. I had to buy a 3 inch cord for my ipod just so it fits, the 3ft cord wrapped up had to be shoved in there. You could always get a small 3 inch usb extension or run a longer extension underneath into the console storage. But, before you say it... "we shouldn't have to do that!"

yeah.. a usb extention cable

yeah.. i'll get a short usb extension cable and "cram" it into the console. This suv has literally acres of dash space... a simple usb slot could have had such better placement......... eh.. I'll just stay paranoid about the CVT... that pretty much trumps everything else.
