electric power steering pump noise / whine fix

fyi, there's a Nissan technical service bulletin about this, ntb16-023, where they reference putting on a thin rubber type insulator on the end of the motor pump housing. I was gonna buy it and just put it on myself but I could only find the part for ~$40! that seemed way to much for something that they should be giving out gratis. I has some big thick rubber washer type things and one was nearly an exact fit. at 3/8" thick, its much thicker than the Nissan part (which I estimate at ~ 1/16"ish. its' od is 3-5/16" and id is 1-13/16"; though +/- a 1/16" or an 1/8" shouldn't be an issue. some adhesive put onto the rubber washer and stuck it onto the end of the pump housing; it worked well for me as I have no more whine!

I hear a slight noise from the outside, when the wheels are turning. This fix seems to easy.

I heard it even just idling. it seemed too simple to me also when I saw the Nissan tsb...how could a thin little rubbery washer thingy stop that incessant whine, but my diy thick rubber washer definitely eliminated my whine. I thought it would just reduce it to a non-annoying level but was surprised that it totally eliminated it.

keep in mind, I haven't seem the Nissan part so maybe it's not rubber or is some type of cld (constrained layer dampener with like butyl & aluminum or etc.) but my extra thick rubber washer has worked great.

Thanks! What kind of adhesive did you use?

I used 3m hi-strength contact adhesive I already had; sprayed 2 coats onto the rubber washer then applied the washer to the cleaned w/ alcohol motor housing.

Finally was able to check mine. It does have the SB complete.
Will skip that little project.
