'19 Murano distorted fuel mileage

My '19 Murano is new, I've only filled it twice. When I check the fuel mileage with pencil & paper I find that the computer generated mileage is out by 11%. One of the reasons I purchased the Murano was the 8.5 L/100km the computer showed on the test drive. What are other owners seeing when they calculate fuel mileage by hand? I'm hoping for increased fuel mileage as vehicle breaks in.

Might be helpful for our friends south of the border, to translate that to 27.67 mpg (US)

Sorry, I searched fuel mileage, didn't find anything re: computer exaggerating fuel economy, the point I want to discuss.
In US gallons, computer says 25.8, actual is 23.1. I've owned VW & Toyota and found their computers to be pretty well bang on, just expected the same for the Murano.

Mine has been pretty accurate. I think it may just need more data. Two fill ups might not be enough for accurate data.

Mine is about 2 mpg too optimistic... no big deal. Sure I wish it was more accurate, but does it really matter if everything else is working well?

That too. I had rather crappy mileage till the engine broke in. Went from 17-18 mpg to 22 mpg. And it still seems to be improving. I dont dont drive much, so Ive only got about 16k miles on her.

But despite that, the mileage on the dash was still pretty close to my mileage log that I was tracking on my phone.

Mileage calculator in Murano is really bad. I think they may be using some rounded numbers for it. For example, I may have it showing 23.1 mpg after driving 300 miles since reset (which I do after each fill-up), then drive for 10-15 miles with the number not changing and then it goes up to 23.4 mpg. You'd think that this kind of a jump can only happen shortly after reset when the distance traveled is short. But no, it almost never changes by less than 0.2 mpg (and usually 0.3 mpg). Something's wrong with their implementation.

Well, I am "happy" to find out I am not the only 2019 owner with this same issue. I am on Murano #7 and I have religiously tracked the mileage and Murano-reported mileage in a spreadsheet since Murano #1 . The first Murano wasn't great but accuracy of the reported mileage got better with every succeeding Murano......that is until the 2019. As reported earlier in the thread, my 2019 is consistantly 2 MPG "more optimistic" than reality. Minor thing I know, but I'd really like it fixed!

Computer generated fuel mileage is not accurate on any vehicle. Itís using the same math used to generate miles to empty. Itís not measuring fuel shot thru the injectors. Iíve never seen one that is accurate. For some driving styles the car will be more accurate than others. If yours is wildly off from reality, then you have a driving style that is not average. Itís all about who you tailor the math for.

My 2018 Murano is off by about 20% on average. I typically calculate 18 mpg after I fill up (lots of aggressive city driving), while the ECO MPG report shows 21/22. I reset it after every fill. As another person stated, this seems to also affect the "miles to empty" number, (which resets have nothing to do with). My guess is that all of the calculations are rooted in a digital gas gauge that isn't the most accurate.

After I fill up (always using the same gas station, and typically the same pump), I drive 1/2 a mile home, reset the trip B mileage counter, and note on paper how many "miles to empty" is reported. Then I compare how that changes with how many miles I actually drive, and it is usually around 20% off, just like the MPG.

I'm also curious how much of a reserve the gas gauge gives you. The warning comes on at 50 miles to empty, but I've noticed that somewhere around 25 miles to empty, the estimate disappears and is replaced with dases. I drove another five or so miles once when this happened and didn't run out of gas, but not sure how far that can be pushed.

I have ~15k miles on my Murano.

Just came back from an all highway trip of 500 KM (320 miles) and the MPG calculator showed 7.9 L/100km (30 mpg) for this trip. The best it has ever been in 30000km. Previous best was 8.7 (27mpg).

I reset trip A after each fillup and record mileage and fuel usage (same place and pump each time, 87 OCT). I no longer reset the dash pod that has accumulated drive time, average fuel economy (10.7L/100km) for all driving, and distance driven. Those numbers just accumulate and, I assume are recalculated at each startup.

I couldnt be happier with the highway fuel economy. However, I couldnt be more unhappy with the intown economy of around 16L/100km (15mpg). For that, I could just drive the Mustang POS around town
