ESCORT Passport 8500 Install

I ordered a direct wire power cord from Escort without the smart-cord muting feature and a sun visor clip.

Install. Pull the front of the map light console down until the snaps detach then slide unit forward, down and out. Tap into the yellow wire of the map light connector and attach the ground lug to an available bolt. Route the wire with the phone plug through the front of the headliner. Helps to tape things up when your done. Also wrap the remaining cord bundle in foam to prevent rattles. There is a small "pocket" as shown for stuffing the bundle into.

You can lower the visor just fine but then the sensors are off axis (pointing straight up and down). If you want to use the visor and detector fully all the time, then obviously this won't work. You'll have to put it elsewhere. I put mine on the passenger side which is good for 95% of my driving.

Question Blew a fuse

I tried this direct wire option and each time I blew the little fuse in the direct wire kit. The last time that I tried I think I blew the fuse to my interior lights. First question is what in the world can I be doing wrong to make this happen? And second, does anyone know where the fuse to the interior light is located. I checked the panal on the drivers side down by the e-brake and I checked under the hood. Could not find it anywhere. Thanks in advance for the help.

Passport 8500

There is a great deal on the Passport 8500 discussed above. Go to www.cartoys.com and load the 8500 into your basket. When you check out enter the coupon code RADAR. You'll get 20% off and free second day shipping. Total delivered price $239.96. Cheaper than Buy-It-Now on Ebay.

This special expires at midnight tonight, 2/27.

I have just purchased a Valentine One Radar Detec. and I realy like the idea Enforcer used to tap into the map light console....I know he stated to pull from the front untill it snaps but I seem to be pulling but I just dont want to take a chance on it breaking....

I have the sunroof buttons on my MO....I'm sure that does not make a diff. but....

My question to you guys are what & how did Enforcer pull that map light console without breaking it?

Many thanks in advanced!!!

Question:

Does the power to the map light circuit cut out after a certain period? That is, can I leave the detector power switch on all the time after leaving the car without having to worry about draining the battery?

Here's another rather simple option. Works very well and the spring type power cord make it a breeze to drop into the side door pocket while remaining connected and you can also open the door. I mounted an extra twin socket to the fuse panel door and tapped into the existig fuse for the front socket with an "add a fuse". A small piece of velcro keeps the detector in place. Kinda need this setup up here because they do carry a $1000 fine if you get caught with one plus you lose the detector.
