Toyo Proxes S/T: First impression

Just put on a set of Toyo Proxes S/T, size 255/60/18 last night. Had about 50 miles on them so far.

I am running 32 PSI on all four.

First impression:

-- They are noticibly noiser than the worn-out Eagle LS I had on. I can tell the difference as soon as I drove off from the tire store.

-- Ride comfort is similar to the stock tires.

-- There seems to be improvement on handling. Turn-in seems sharper than the stock ones.

I'll give more updates as mileage piles up.

What type of road do you drive on (ie asphalt, concrete)? I have the Proxies and find them to be considerably less noisy then the OEM Goodyears on asphalt and equal to or better on concrete. I also found that they do not get caught in the grooves in the concrete on the freeway. The Goodyears would catch a groove and pull the car slightly to one side or the other. I had my first rain experience at highway speed today. I didn't even realize I was going 80. In the rain they are very stable and quiet. I did notice they slip a little when accelerating over large areas of cross walk paint that is wet but, I think just about any tire will do that.

That's odd.

The Proxes I have on are noticibly noiser than the stock Eagle LS on both asphalt and concrete. As I said, I can tell the difference the instance I drove off the parking lot of the tire store.

I did not notice any tire hum with the Eagles, but with the Proxes is quite obvious anywhere above 25 mph.

I got to drive in some light rain this morning. The car feels much more sure-footed than before. But then, the Eagles I had was worn down to the wear-bars so that was expected...

when I first drove out of the tire store lot, I thought they were a little louder but with in a few miles they quieted down considerably. I am a outside sales man and on the phone all the time, so tire noise is a concern. On some surfaces (newly laid asphalt) I do not hear any tire noise even with the radio off. When the Freeway has concrete with rain grooves it is as loud, if not slightly louder but, the trade off of not being jigged side to side is worth it to me. I wonder if the different parts of the county have different mixes of aggregate which effect the noise level. I am very pleased with the wet traction especially at freeway speeds. Handling is surefooted and braking is excellent. Far superior to the OEM. They also look way better.

Saw an escalade yesterday in a parking lot with some giant bling wheels....I looked down at the freshly shined tire to see what it was.

UPDATE: Road trip

Took a trip to Vegas over the Holidays. ~500 miles round trip.

Impression:

1. The TOYOs are definitely noiser than stock Eagle LS's on all surfaces, but it's bearable.

2. On the return trip it was raining all the way. Wet traction was excellent. Never once felt the car hydroplated.

Overall, I am happy with the Toyos as a replacement.

extended wet traction

Just a follow up on how the Toyo Proxies work in wet weather. Since it has been raining for over a week straight in So Ca. Wet traction is excellent on the freeways and roads. Braking is outstanding. I took a trip in driving rain to Downtown LA on Friday night and was suprised how well the MO, with good shoes can handle the wet stuff. Standing water did not pull the car much and overall stability was great. I never felt any hydroplanning or loss of control. I have about 3,000 miles so far on these tires and feel they are far superior to the OEM Goodyear's.

I do not believe that Truck Tires are suitable for Murano. So price wise you may do better, tire wise - I would stick with OEM for time being. But that is me, having experienced Yokohamas......

$161 sounds good for the Toyos. I paid $695 out of the door for a set of 4.

The problem with OEM Eagle LS's is that they are on national back order with no ETA last time I check (about a month ago). People who need tires right now have to find alternative. I think the set of Toyos I have on, though a bit noisy, is a viable option.

Actually I am glad not to wait for the stock tires. We had a terrible rain storm over the weekend. I was travelling on the fast lane at around 65mph (which I shouldn't have done in the first place ) when I hit a big puddle. I could feel my car hydroplated a bit, but luckily didn't lose control. Can't imagine what would have happened if I still have the worn OEM tires on....

you have a point. Yokos are good in the rain too. Possibly due to more agressive threat pattern.

Question 255/60/18

Just one final check before I purchase these Toyo Proxes S/T.

No one has ever had any problems with the 255/60/18s rubbing have they?

Mine are 255/60/18. No rubbing (with stock suspension).
