Goodbye and Thank you!!!

Well my wife have finally decided to trade-in the '06 Murano yesterday for an loaded 2011 Ford Edge AWD with only 23000 miles on the clock.

So I just want to give thanks to this forum for making my ownership and maintenance of the Murano that much easier by providing invaluable tips and how-to threads that have saved me tons of $$$ over the years.

Now I will have to give the Ford Edge guys a tough time on their forum.

Take care everyone and thanks again.

Thank you.

The 2011 Ford Edge AWD is really nice to drive.

The 2011 Edge handles like a sports suv and is very quick and responsive.

The brakes on the AWD model stops as good as the Murano, which is an improvement over the pre-11 Edge models that had weaker brakes than the Murano(why I did not buy an Edge sooner).

The Edge does seems to have a bit more space on the inside, and plenty of pockets and storage in the trunk under the trunk cover.

The best thing is that the AWD Edge engine puts out over 280 horse power on regular gas and gives nearly the same gas mileage as my old Murano AWD at 18 city and 25 highway( while using a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission).

Ford has really stepped up their game on the Edge and in reliability overall.

In terms of maintenance, the Edge seems like a pretty straight forward cheap car to maintain, which is good.

However, I will still have to removed the intake manifold to do a spark plug change even on the Edge.

But, I will not have to remove the wiper assembly and the whole cowl assembly to do it like on the Murano.

So, I think that the Edge is a good alternative to the Murano for anyone looking to leave Nissan, but still want the Murano functionality without paying a lot of money.

However, I still like the very stylist look of my old first generation Murano better than the average look of the Edge(and the second generation Murano), which made it hard to say goodbye.

But with only 105k miles on the clock, my old Murano was losing oil and starting to smoke a lot at start-up, so we decided to trade it while we can still can get some decent money out of the car, instead of waiting before the smoking become more noticeable after start-up to an appraiser.

Good luck Carguy but take my advice, leave to door open for re-entry.
I once said goodbye and then the wife said, "I miss my Murano" and I'm back.
For now I wish you the best with your new ride.

Thank you.

You may be right.

I am liking the look of the new 2015 Murano, so if it turns out to be a pretty good car, who knows what may happen in about 3 or 4 years.

Good luck with it. Good friend of mine and his wife both come from a multigenerational Ford families and bled blue oval up until their last two vehicles, one of them an Edge I think about an 2011 as well and his last F150 both plagued with issues since new, he just traded his f 150 in on a brand new TRD Tundra after 150 started using oil at 80K miles and his wife will most likely go a different route next time as well after all the issues they have with the edge.

2011 CrossCabriolet, 22K miles, Platinum Graphite w/black interior and top. 2014 VW Jetta TDI 6 speed 60K miles pending VW buy back with DPF delete and Malone stage 2 eco tune, 45-49mpg now versus a best of the 39mpg when stock . 05 Dodge Cummins 2500 4X4 130K miles. 2010 Dodge 1500 4X4 Hemi 115K miles, 2011 22' triple tube Bennington Pontoon.

The 2011 Ford Edge has good reviews wherever I've looked. I wouldn't have any reservations about it. Same for the F150's - they're workhorses and there's nothing wrong with them.

I appreciate the honest opinion.

What problems did your friends have with their 2011 Edge?

Because , I am not naive enough to think that the Edge will be 100% percent trouble free.

But, the car is driving very smooth after 4 years, therefore I believe that this one is not a factory dud.

Also, I still have over two years of power train warranty left.

FYI, I have a cousin who bought a Tundra new in 2010, and even it needed a few service repairs under warranty over the first few years in addition to the latest recalls(But my cousin still love it), so no car is trouble-free.

However, I am more worried about the Ford Sync touch system reliability than the engine or transmission.

Thanks for the reassuring post.

I researched it the best I could, and found mostly good comments.

The problems I found was mostly about the Ford Sync system, but the system have be patched up with firmware updates since.

Plus, the Ford forums have plenty of information on how to correct frozen systems, etc.

However, I do have to keep eye for the PTU(a kind of transfer-case unit between the engine and rear diff) which may leak according a member in a Edge forum, but it seems easy to repair if it happens.
Like I posted in a different thread, every car has a particular issue to look out for.

I looked under my Edge and it seems dry as a bone, with no obvious indication that it has ever leaked around the PTU seals ,so I guessing that this Edge is as good as it get used.

I see you have the E class Benz and use high quality part for your Murano.
Did you look at the ML before buying the Edge?
