Post Rear tail light bulb mix up

I have recently purchased a used 2006 Nissan Murano EL. Nice looking ride, high miles. When I turn the blinkers on, they flash real fast like a bulb is out (at least that is what I thought). My Murano does not have the LED system, it has the 3 bulb system. When I took the rear taillight covers off it was evident that somebody had been doing some custom wiring

When I enable the turn signals in either direction, the top and bottom lamps illuminate on the appropriate side.
When I brake, the rear bulb on the drivers side illuminates (both elements within that bulb), on the passengers side the top bulb and one of the bottom illumiate (only one element).
When I turn the lights on, the middle bulb on the drivers side illuminates on the drivers side, and the bottom bulb on the passengers side illuminates (only one element).

The drivers side is where it is obvious custom wiring has happened. Passengers side looks normal.

I'd appreciate a little help in regards to which bulbs are suppose to do what in these conditions.

Is it really a '06.? All US '06 have led taillights. You better make sure what you have.....
Your 'custom' wiring seems to have screwed everything back there up......

Title says it's a 2006 and the VIN check says it's a 2006. I think something fishy has gone on with this vehicle, but I guess I'm stuck with it for now. The post still stands, how should these 3 bulb lights function?

Top light is a parking light, it turns on when parking or headlight is engaged. Bulb type is 194.

Middle light is signal light. Bulb type is 7440. Only comes on when you signal.

Bottom light is parking and brake light. Dual filament bulb type 7443. Parking light filament turns on when parking or headlight is engaged. Brake light filament turns on when you step on the brake pedal.

Hope this helps.

What situation constitutes 'parking'? Is that reverse?

"parking light" switch/icon on your steering column light stalk. Reverse lamps are separate. Hope this helps and take care!

"Parking" is the setting on your light switch (signal stalk) one before the highlight. It powers up most of the exterior light bulbs except the headlights. Don't confuse it with the reverse light which only comes on when gear selector is in reverse. The reverse lights are next to the license plate.
