What is this button?

I bought a 2011 Murano SV yesterday. There is a button that lights up red and is pushable. It is the one with the question mark. It is not in the manual. Is it a garage door opener or something else? Thanks for the help!

Congratz and welcome! There's a little bit of glare but to me it looks more like an LED than a button. What happens when you press it? Also, could it be for an aftermarket security system?

That is not factory. It looks like a LED security light to me too. When does it light up red? Maybe that can tell us what it is for.

It does flash when the security system is armed. And you can push the button but nothing seems to happen. But why add one if it has one from the factory? Aftermarket remote start possibly? Only recieved Nissan intellekeys when I purchased it. The wife and I got out of it at Wal-mart the other day and I swear it started on it's own. Kinda scares me, but I was hitting the lock button. I have tried three quick button pushes and can't get it to start.

I looked at the Fuse and Relay Box under the hood. Found a wire harness with a relay sorta spliced in. More like twisted and taped together. I took out the relay but the button in the picture above still is flashing. Anyone have a wiring diagram or do I need to pick up a Chilton manual?

Green wire is splice into blue wire beside the silver sticker marked C

Wire Harness can be seen laying in the lower part of the picture.

Garage
That is more than likely an aftermarket alarm. A good installer ties into the shift light or existing blinking LED. It was either removed or is still installed but not enabled. Then again that splice hack-job looks like a garage special, so i'd have the car checked out.

We tried to have a remote start installed on our 09, after 5 hours the installer basically said we'd be better off buying another car. The older intelligent key is a pain to circumvent. May be a reason why the '15 comes with a remote starter.

I dug around under the dash and found a remote start module, an Avistart 4103. I agree with the Hack job part. It would be nice to have it if it does work. I have to do some reading on it. I'll update when I find out some more info.

Sometimes the best thing to do when you buy a car is to find the stuff like this, remove it and return the wiring to stock, then start over. You can certainly do a cleaner, more reliable job than that.
