Add Factory Navigation

We have a 2012 SL AWD, with about 198,000 miles, and have come to the conclusion we won’t be getting rid of it any time soon. We also strongly regret not getting one with the navigation system. I was wondering if there would be a way to replace the no nav unit with the one that has nav. Swapping out the dashboard display and controls and steering wheel controls. I realise this will likely be costly, if even possible, but we are quite attached to this car, and really want the factory nav.

You might want to consider something like this.
I thought about buying one quite a few years ago but no the price and wondering how to keep it up to date were too much of an issue for me.

Has anyone installed one of these UNAV systems?
I looked into adding the factory one. Almost impossible to keep all the functionality. You have to replace the display, complete A/V box, control panel, and THE ENTIRE A/V WIRING HARNESS! All of the A/V box connectors and pinouts are different....

I would save yourself thousands of $$$$ and get a Garmin nav unit.
They almost always work better than factory units, are portable ( can use them in any vehicle such as a rental).
They also have lifetime updates.
All for $200 or less.
Factory navs are never as good in my history and I've had several of both.
Save your money for a trip or a down payment on a future new ride.

I have a Garmin and a 7"Magellan. Your suggestion is fine IF you want wires and things hanging all over your dash/windshield......

To save even more I just use my phone with google maps offline mode. Bought a decent enough permanent mount from proclips that securely puts the phone just above the dash for easy viewing. I don't have to look down to see route info and it doesn't block any line of sight. Have to run a charging wire for long trips but for quick trips around town I can just drop it in the mount and go.

Are you talking about units from 30 years ago?
They're all cordless/wireless and rechargeable now.
Have been for many years.
Better graphics and options than factory.
There are many ways to mount them besides on your dash and windshield.
Way better than factory and thousands of dollars less.

Not to start a pi**ing contest or prolong this discussion. Both of my units are rechargeable; one has 2013 maps, the other 2011 (both adequate for my once or twice a year need.
I was just asking a question, not writing a check. To each his own......
