Strange Top Problem NEED HELP!!

I have a 2011 CrossCabriolet and the top will not close without assistance. It is difficult to explain, but when attempting to raise the top, the side aluminum parts of the top get caught inside the storage compartment and the cross bars hit the rear headrest roll bars before the top can get out of the compartment. It is as if the top isn't springing open and going vertical before it goes horizontal to meet the windshield header. If you have three people to operate the top together (one to push the button, two to assist the top in coming out of the storage area until it clears it and the roll bars), it will all work perfectly. Additionally, it seems as if there is another cylinder that works to "expand" the top as the main lift cylinders put the top up, but they don't "kick in" soon enough. Have checked for broken parts, leaks, and even replaced the pump assembly, but nothing changes the operation of the top in the slightest. Is there someone who knows these tops well enough to help diagnose this? Is there some sort of sensor that activates the secondary cylinder to expand the top? Is it part of the module programming? Surely I am not the only one to have had this particular problem??
