  1. It finally happened - ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
It is kind of sad feeling thinking that there are so many of our Muranos in MO heaven, and all went before their time. I'll be around. This will be my first and last car with a CVT though.
  2. Engine pining

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
You can use the recommended 91 octane fuel, or have the knock sensor checked - not even sure the ECU will register a bad knock sensor so you can have it replaced as its not that costly either.
  3. What is this and why is it leaking?

There is a separate bushing kit, but the labor is the same as replacing the entire control arm, and the parts are pretty cheap, so you might as well replace the control arm which comes with a bushing attached.
  4. leak discovered-2007 sl awd

The CVT fluid starts out light transparent green. After some miles, it turns an amber color, a bit darker than new motor oil.
  5. "clacking" coming from engine upon start up

This is pretty common on Nissan VQ engines - the hydraulic valve lifters are noisy on start up, even when using synthetic oil and a good filter with anti drainback valve. It has happened on my Maxima, also on my Murano. Goes away after a second or two so I never really worried about it since...
  6. How To -- High Pressure Power Steering Hose

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
Been out of it for a while but I've just to remark what an excellent thread this is - love seeing D-I-Y's with great pictures. Mine was replaced at the $tealership at around 70,000 miles. Now I'm at 118,000 miles, still chugging along.
  7. Murano 18" tire recommendations?

    Tires & Wheels
Believe it or not, I still have my 2003 Murano. Purchased new and now at 112k going, well, still going! I recently put 42,000 miles on a set of Yokohama Envigors and was pretty happy with their performance. They did wear rather quickly though, and if I pushed it I might have gotten 45,000...
  8. TPMS - * Pressure from one sensor?

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
Yes its a defective sensor. I got fed up with the * on mine so I had the sensor replaced. Works fine again.
  9. Air conditioner not working ??

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
First check to see if the compressor is actually engaging. If the compressor is engaging (clutch lockup) then I'd check the refridgerant level.
  10. Dealer Diagnosis for my 2003 Murano

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
Well I wouldn't necessarily say that the dealer cannot diagnose the vehicle properly, but they will be more expensive to use for repairs since their labor rates are probably higher and they will charge more since they use factory parts. Everything you list seem like normal wear items, so if you...
  11. Can I replace my 03 cluster for an 07?

    1st Gen (2003-2007)
There is a probably some state-specific law that requires accurate mileage reporting in the event of gauge cluster replacement. I am sure the dealer can reprogram it for you, although if you buy it from ebay or a junkyard, they will unlikely be able to reprogram it for you.
  12. Problems starting my 04 Murano I just bought

You are better off just leaving the car there and letting them fully diagnose the vehicle and repair it - get a rental for a week if you have to.
  13. 2012 Murano PLlatnium SLOW

    2nd Gen (2009 - 2014)
What slip? You can't even spin the wheels on a Murano. If you are talking about the slipping sensation when you accelerate, that is just the way the CVT works. No way around it.
  14. Problems starting my 04 Murano I just bought

The CVT itself would not cause a starting issue. Also, your starting issue is almost certainly not the starter. If the starter is bad, you will just get no response from the starter - turn the key and nothing. Not even a "click click click" that you get with a dead battery. A starter that...
  15. Nissan Murano 2003 - running off

According to the ESM: P021 - intake valve timing control performance - "there is a gap between the angle of target and phase-control angle degree" - probable causes - 1) crankshaft position sensor, 2) camshaft position sensor, 3) accumulation of debris to the signal pickup portion of the...
  16. Transfer case poll

As with any poll, it will attract mostly those who have had problems. So it is not representative of the entire population of Muranos. A lot of the transfer case repair cost is not the part, which can be found for under $1000 from reputable Nissan parts dealers, but rather, the extensive...
  17. Problems starting my 04 Murano I just bought

Coming from a used car dealership, it is possible they changed the transmission fluid..... to the wrong fluid. Nissan CVTs can only use Nissan NS-2 fluid, which runs between $15-20/qt. Running regular transmission fluid in the CVT will damage it.
  18. Problems starting my 04 Murano I just bought

Randomly replacing parts is absolutely the wrong way to go. Bite the bullet and get it taken care of at a Nissan dealership or a shop that specializes in Nissan vehicles. This is almost certainly not a spark plug problem - it would have thrown a misfire code if this was the case. The...
  19. 06 with quickly worn brakes is confusing...advice needed.

Well, there is a possibility that Firestone overexaggerated the brake wear. For the rotors, yeah if you are on your second or third set of pads, then they can wear too thin to further resurface. Unless you actually measure the thickness of the brake pads yourself, you won't really know how...
  20. Problems starting my 04 Murano I just bought

On a 2004, Nissan extended the transmission warranty to 10 years/120,000 miles. CVT = continuously variable transmission. The transmission uses a metal belt to vary ratios, instead of having discrete gears. Because of this, the transmission has "infinite" ratios within a certain range, and...
