I just got my car back from a 15K scheduled maintenance. It cost me almost 350 bucks!!! Is this an okay price for work like this??

Also i'm a little wary of this specific dealer i've been going to. I've had to brign up some disputes with them not fixing my alignment correctly, long story short, i had to get it done at a alignment specialist. But i wanted the dealership to pay for it, so i got the run around and with some persistence i got them to pay for it, but it may have left a sour taste in the service techs mouth. I mean i'm a 22 year old "basically i look like a kid" walking in there and telling them they didn't do alignments right.

Do yo uthink it's a bad idea to keep going to these guys as i feel they may not be too fond of me?? Does that stuff still go on these days where mechanics will put alot of stuff on your invoice and not do anything??

after i got the maintenance the car felt better and pretty good, but is the $300 the right price??

I think that $350 is alot for a 15K check but I also think that they is average for dealers.

Did you look at the invoice for what was done?

Here is what I would have expected to be done:

Change oil and filter*
Rotate tires*
Repalce cabin micro filter*
Check charging system
Replace wiper blades*
Check air filter*
Check fluid levels
Lubricate locks/hinges*

* = Service manual

Does that cost $350 if you did it yourself, nope but you do have to factor in their "experience" as well.

You are not obligated to service your MO at any particular dealer. If you don't like your current dealer, then find another.

Unless it is for warranty work you can always take your car to a non-Nissan mechanic for scheduled maintenance. If you have a friend, mechanic, or service station that you feel is competent and trust-worthy you can have one of them do your scheduled maintenance.

I don't think $350 is that out of the line if they spend the time to do what they claim to do. The labor at dealership is expensive and that's why I never went for any scheduled maintenance. You can probably do most of the "checks" and "changes" yourself and have dealer or a mechanic do what you don't like to do yourself. I don't believe in excessive maintenance, especially by someone else. There is always a chance something don' t get to put back properly, or some screws lost, or the bolts are not torqued according to spec, etc.

15k miles is a number of BS inspections and oil change. $350 is over the top. Yes, labour is expensive, but not that expensive. Most of the members of this forum would do better job than average Nissan mechanic (I mean Certified one!).

Let's try to estimate the time:
- get ready - 10 min
- lift the car - 5 min
- oil and filter change - 30 min
- inspections - while waiting for oil to drain
- "lubrications" (if they do anything!) - 5 min
- finish off the job, fill in paper work - 15 min
TOTAL time - 65 min, if the rate is $100/hr - you get $108.33
Materials - $12

TOTAL -apprx. $120 plus taxes

Nowhere near $350!
