Hey everyone,
I'm 2 weeks into owning my 2018 Murano and love it, coming from an Audi Q5. My only concern is that it's a bit rough when starting. Has anyone else experienced this? The roughness is only on the actual start, and usually only after it's been sitting a while, and doesn't translate into anything when actually driving.

Thank you from a Murano noob

How many miles?

It shouldn't be a bit rough during the initial start. Initially the RPMs will be a bit higher, but it should settle down to a very smooth idle after within a second or two.

I would have your battery and alternator load tested to be sure they are performing correctly. Many auto parts stores will do this for free.

It's more that it's rough while starting, for that initial second or two. It does feel like it struggles to start. Once it turns over its all good. I'll try to get a video; I think you're on to something with battery/alternator.

A video will be very useful. Upload it to YouTube and post a link to it here.

It's not clear what a "rough start" means. Does it crank for several seconds before starting up. Does it crank slowly before spinning up like the starter is struggling? Your initial post made it seem like the engine starts fine, but runs rough for a short time (e.g. sputtering, misfiring etc.).

I took a video starting it this morning, but it was fine, so that's useless. I would describe it as briefly struggling to turn over, but as soon as it starts it's fine. It doesn't crank slowly, the engine just seems to chug. In my last vehicle, no matter the weather, when I pressed the started it just roared to life.

I'm sorry if I'm doing a bad job of describing it; I'll try again to get a video.

As suggested earlier, get the battery tested (and alternator while your at it). Also, since you live in Canada, inspect the main battery ground cable all the way from the negative terminal back to where it terminates on the transmission--excessive corrosion of the ground cable can cause electrical problems.

Keep in mind, you're going from an Audi which tends to have more sound and vibration dampening then a Nissan would have. It may be that your sensitivity to the Nissan is heightened since the Audi was quieter. My brother in laws Q5 engine seems to turn over once and it turns on, almost an instant on. I find my Murano takes maybe twice as long as his to turn on.

If oem original battery is in the battery tray then you should replace it. battery gets old, volt drop, electronics suffer, weird §ĥįţ starts to happen.. these newer vehicles are completely dependent on sensors and computers! Replaced my 18 mo sl with optima yellow top, all them crazy little gremlins left town as did my e.d..
