I recently received a letter that says the MO is due for 3750 mile maintenance. With my other cars I routinely ignore these and subsequent notices, but this is my first time dealing with Nissan's very odd service department and warrantee procedures. Are the "scheduled" maintenance visits required in order to avoid any warrantee problems? I change my own oil & filter every 3000 mi, check fluid levels, etc, etc, and can't think of anything else that the car needs.

The only thing you want to do at 3,750 mile is to change the oil and filter (if you have not done so already). If you do your own maintenace, keep records and you should be fine. Personally, I plan to take my car to dealer for the 15k mile interval scheduled maintenances so there would be official records as well for warranty purposes. However, I will ask them to do the minimum basic stuff and I do the rest (air and cabin filter changes etc. ) myself to keep costs down.
