I was replacing my polen filter the lazy way (by pulling the glovebox off the railing without unscrewing the screws), and after putting everything together I discovered that the glovebox now drops open, and not slides open. So I had to investigate what I did. Fortunately I had my electric screwdriver with me and it took only a few minutes to undo all the screws. I discovered that there is a contraption behind the glovebox that has a long string coming out of it which has a piston inside that slides when the string is pulled. I put a thread over a bolt that was near by and tighten it, but the glovebox still is kind of flops open.

My quesiton is -- has anybody had an experience setting a tension on that string to insure smooth opening of the glovebox? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
