Has anyone replaced the armrest material on the center console? Mine began cracking a couple of months ago where my elbow commonly rests so it’s essentially biting me whenever I wear a short sleeve shirt now.

A new one is $600, used on eBay is $130ish in good condition.

I saw several covers that just slip on over the original that are allegedly vehicle specific. It would be nice to get rid of the void between the armrests but I doubt those would include foam in the middle to properly do that. They also probably move around a lot since they are just covers.

I wanted to just pop the 2 padded sections off and recover them. Already have a soft pair of new pants I’m willing to sacrifice for the material. Attempted to take them off this evening and failed. There are 8 screws on the bottom of the lid, pulled all 8 of them out, and the padded sections moved a little but seems like something else is holding them on. I even pulled one of the little rubber bumpers out to see if there was another screw under them. I pulled and twisted in different directions but I didn’t want to break it without further research. Google and YouTube were no help.

Since the whole lid with the armrests and hinges is all one part according to Nissan (96920-9UF0B) the service manual does not show how to disassemble it beyond unscrewing the hinges from the base.

Has anyone taken these off for repair before?

Well, I can now answer my own question. I found a video for a 2017 Maxima, it looked similar to ours from the bottom of the lid. You have to pry around the edge between the armrest material and the bottom of the lid after you remove the 8 screws. Luckily I have a whole bag of assorted plastic pry tools. I had to pry a little then leave the tool in and pry higher up as they wanted to pop back in. Eventually, I had 4 pry tools around the edge and the whole thing came off with the use of the 5th on the top around the latch. 4 more screws hold the lid to the hinge and you can get it off.

For future reference here is a photo showing where the tabs are.

8 more screws secure the padded sections to the lid.

The top of the console is 5 parts.

Got it all apart then could not find my staple gun to secure new material to it.

Why does it seem like every photo I post here is of my car taken apart?

I hope you can get your pants off, to use to cover the armrest if that is still your idea.
:ROFLMAO:
Very helpful effort and pics!
Cheers
