Engine Failure?

190 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  MuranoSL2003
The engine cut off on me while on the highway.
Alternator and battery replaced last week....
When turning the key all the electronics come on but the car wont crank..
Is this the end of the road for my Murano?

Start with the basics. Are the battery terminals clean, and are the cables tight? A week is enough for a loose battery cable to lose contact to the point where it will turn lights on but won't run the starter.

Second, the work you just had done should still be under warranty by the shop doing the work. Have the car flat-bedded to them and work out an agreement on how to proceed.

Rebuilt and non-OEM alternators are OFTEN defective...

Check the charging voltage, it should be over 14 volts after a cold start.

Being your Murano is a old 1st gen, also check the negative battery terminal ground connections under the battery and at the CVT.
Make sure to check the engine oil. My daughters car would not start and that was the reason. I don't know if it would or would not crank, I was not there.

Can you point to the system that would prevent a Murano from starting when the oil is low?

AFAIK, there isn't one...

Maybe it's just coincidence that adding oil worked for your daughter...
