Cool.
:)
I wonder why the 64 AC Cobra wasn't on that list....course it looks like most are from the 80's up.
and a few more would be:
426 hemi cuda convertible, I have seen one do a wheelie, it had to have a very obscene 0-60.
'68 427 vette--would blow the doors off a Z06.
67 SS Chevelle with 427, same engine as the vette but way lighter body.

Awesome! The Renault Espace is this minivan looking thing that they jammed an F1 engine into.

You sure about that? The C5 Z06 is easily a 12 second car stock. Those 427 3x2 Vettes were ~400hp cars when new, blowing doors off would be what? 10s? Obviously some drag-prepped, restored '67 with who-knows-what mods could be crazy fast, but that's not the stock car any more. Beyond 1/4 mile runs, I can't imagine the 427 doing much to the Z06.

Just wondering guys. In 68 the Vette changed to the much longer aggressive body style. What did they call it...Mako shark nose or something? I had a Vette for 14 years that was of that body design, mine was a later model (1977) when the horse power was giving way for better gas mileage.
My question, the Vette body design 63 thru 67, was that not a faster car then the 68? I was just under the impression that it was lighter and faster. For the record, I think the 67 Vette was the prettiest girl at the dance.....and it still is!

GMTurbo

That was a great link.
The 1968 L88 was mentioned there with the single 4 barrel:
"Chevrolet was reluctant about revealing the engine's true potential and officially rated at only 430 bhp, but most experts believed that it in fact developed close to 600 bhp! "

The Z06 at 400hp comes in way short of that.

I have owned mouse and rat engined chevys, rats definitely owned the mouses. With a little modification (crank stroked 1/4") a mark IV (454) produces well over 1100 foot pounds of torque below 2000 rpm---you can't even touch that with a mouse.

I have ridden in both the Z06 and a 427 L88 vette. I have personally built 5.7 liter mouses way stronger than a Z06 engine for less than $1000. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice mouse motor, but I became a believer when I had my "doors blown off" by rats a few times. Then I got one for myself. Watching the tach was amazing. It would peg the red line in less than 1/2 a second, waaaay different than a mouse.

I have a buddy with a 68 L88 convertible, I would love to see a mouse beat it.

Mouse = Small Block Chevy = SBC
Rat = Big Block Chevy = BBC

The nice thing about the BBC engines is the torque. Screw high HP - show me torque that makes my chest cave in.

A SBC is far cheaper to build than a BBC. People love big HP numbers and torque is what you use to measure how tight your lug nuts are.

Now, I'd much rahter have a 427 Vette over a Z06 - but the facts are the Z06 is faster. It doesn't mean it has more HP or torque - but the car is faster.....
