1) Is the WAGNER D2S the same as the D2R?

2) How the heck do you replace these things?

Thanks,
Phil

Is the WAGNER D2S the same as the D2R?

The short answer is NO.

The D2S is designed for optimum performance in a projection or ellipsoidal optical unit.

The D2R is produced with added optical shielding and is designed for reflection optics or complex shape reflectors.

Thanks, Guys! One more question.....

It looks ike I need to disassemble the light housing from the vehicle to replace these lights...How do I do that? I assume that U have to take the grill off, etc. Or do U guys know of a different way?

Thanks Again,

Easy way is to remove the inner fenderwell linings and back of headlight will be easily accessible.
Kris put some confusion in there : to make sure, correct bulb is D2S

Kris & Ekaxel-

Which one is right? Kris' service manual shows it to be D2R. Ekaxel says it should be D2S. The 2005 and 2006 Owners Manuals lists the D2S as the correct bulb. The 2005 Service Manual also lists the D2S.

It looks like the winner is.... D2S.

We are going to have to be a lot more careful before we "hurt" somebody.
The Murano has changed in many small ways since it was introduced.
We need to make sure we know WHAT Murano we are advising on.
Not to be harsh, sincerely, but I have seen this happen a couple of times now.
Sooner or later somebody is going to spend some money or waste a lot of time on the wrong repair.
We need to qualify up front WHAT Murano people have, before we charge out there as the voice of authority.

It would sure make it easier if folks would put the pertinent info in their sig.

Homer,
you are right. We need to be more specific.

Can someone check 2003 and 2004? I just checked 05 and 06 and both state D2S in owners manual. Sorry I am on the left coast and do not have access to my home computer.

Kris,
The more important question is what is the model year that PB125 is driving.

Homer,
You hit the nail right on the head. It would make it a bit easier if all members included the year and model in their signature. Their location would also help, especially when someone asks about winter tires. Are they in New Jersey with 3" snow storms or Michigan with notorious lake-effect snow storms?

Joe,

I know it is important what model year he is driving but it is puzzling me now. My SM says D2R (03), Nissan on-line Owners Manual for 05 and 06 say D2S. So I am puzzled now. Was there a change or the 03SM has an error...

Never use a D2R in a projector headlight and vice versa (no D2S in a reflector. That is a design spec regardless of vehicle. Has to be an error in the manual.

Did some research on the net. This is what I found:

"Info on HID-D2R and HID-D2S
Replacement Bulbs
D2R bulbs were originally designed for
Mercedes-Benz. Consequently, D2R
bulbs and D2S bulbs (used initially by
BMW) feature subtle differences at the
base of the bulb for fitment purposes.
The differences primarily consist of a
cut-out and notch for fastening purposes
being located differently. In Addition to
the base varying slightly, D2R bulbs are
easily distinguished by ceramic paint
along the sides of the capsule.

It seems that the theory projector/reflector does not hold the water....unless somebody got it wrong again....

Kris-

It looks like the 2003 Service Manual is wrong.

The Sylvania website lists the D2S as the replacement lamp for the 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 MOs.

I wonder how many people are running the incorrect lamps thanx to Nissan's error.

Joe,
I think you are right. I have also found this on the net:
MERCEDES BENZ CLK headlight and fog light light bulbs upgrade
| Make & Model | Year | Headlight Low Beam
MERCEDES BENZ CLK 00-02 H7

MERCEDES BENZ CLK 00-02 HID D2R

MERCEDES BENZ CLK 03-05 HID D2S

MERCEDES BENZ CLK 03-05 H7

MERCEDES BENZ CLK 98-99 HID D2R

MERCEDES BENZ CLK320 98-99 H7

MERCEDES BENZ CLK430 99 H7

MERCEDES BENZ CLK430 99 HID D2R

It seems to me that the D2R was the older design consequently superseded by D2S.

I can't seem to get anything by clicking it. If you paste it into your address bar, you should get the correct pdf page.
